Wagga galloper Another One is set to run at Sandown after bypassing a Stakes race in Sydney.

A stronger than anticipated Stakes race in Sydney has led Wagga trainer Gary Colvin waiting a week to try his luck in Melbourne. 

Colvin had Another One down to contest the Listed Lord Mayors Cup (2000m) at Rosehill last Saturday but felt that race was a little too strong. 

Instead, he will make the trip to Sandown on Saturday to contest the Catanach's Jewellers Handicap (1800m), a benchmark 100 race on Saturday. 

Colvin said the Sandown race was more to his, insisting it was a pity he missed out on the run in Sydney after Another One had finished fourth to Wicklow in the Listed Wagga Cup (2000m) on May 5 at his most recent outing. 

"We were really keen to go because he's been going really well," Colvin said. 

"I thought there would have been more horses going to Brisbane but instead they were still hanging around Sydney." 

Colvin said he had been keen to try Another One around the 2000m trip, but his plans had been restricted due to the trainer having different plans earlier in the gelding's career. 

Those plans included the Country Championship (1400m) at Randwick, a race he won during the 2022 Sydney Autumn Carnival, and then this year the Listed National Sprint (1400m) at Canberra in March. 

Colvin said he had seen improvement from Another One following his run over 2000m at Wagga. 

"He has come on really strong since then," Colvin said. 

"That was his first run over 2000 (metres). We had always wanted to get him there, but we had those bigger races, the Country Championships, and we had to stick to that distance. 

"But now we have got him up in distance because he just relaxes so well, and he handles the wet too, so it doesn't worry us if it's a bit wet down there." 

Colvin said he may return to Sydney next month for the Listed W J McKell Cup (2000m) at Rosehill if Another One continues to please.
