Trainer Paul Murray is content to kick off lightly-raced talent Zarni on home turf at Kembla Grange this Saturday with the confidence that better things are to come for the promising filly.

Zarni ($12 on TAB) will make her return from a short spell in the Wmd Law Class 1 Handicap (1200m) after showing plenty of promise in her maiden preparation with a win and a placing from four starts.

"She is genuine and a real racehorse really," Paul Murray said.

"She just pleases you every day of the week and does her work.

"Around the stable, she is just one of those nice horses to have around, is very relaxed and a lovely filly."

Murray believes Zarni is a city quality filly in time and said he will consider heading towards the Grafton Guineas (1600m) later this preparation if the filly is ready to step up over the mile.

But he plans to keep his focus on home turf first with TAB rating Zarni a double-figure chance to return a winner.

Zarni, a daughter of Nicconi, looked to have returned in good order when winning her only trial over 790m at Kembla back on June 7.

"She has come back alright, trialled good and we are happy with her," Murray said. "I think she will improve a lot on the run on Saturday.

"We have to start somewhere so we will start back at Kembla.

"We will take a through a couple of grades down at Kembla and then we will head to town with her." Jess Taylor will pilot Zarni.

Murray had to sweat on runs for his other two contenders on the card Red Niccerz and Globe Runner both ended up among the emergencies for their respective events before earning starts following scratchings.

Globe Runner ($19) is the better of the two chances in the Ansto Maiden Handicap (1000m) with Red Niccerz ($151) looking to turn around her form in the Tynan Suzuki Maiden Plate (1300m).

"Globe Runner is an up and down sort of horse," Murray said. "I have been really happy with his work the past week and he might be a sneaky each-way hope.

"Red Niccerz got a run too and we've put the blinkers on her because she seems to look around a fair bit so we will see if that sharpens her up a bit."

Grant Buckley has been called up to pilot both horses on the seven-event card.
