3 minute read

Racing SA will have a strong presence at the inaugural South Australian Festival of Sport at Memorial Drive Tennis Centre from Thursday, June 29 to Saturday July 1.

The aim of the festival is to celebrate and stimulate our state's vibrant sports ecosystem, and Racing SA's focus will be on highlighting the elite skills that jockeys have.

"The Festival of Sport is a chance to showcase racing alongside other mainstream sports, and to share industry knowledge with sports leaders from around the state, university graduates and high school students, and sports fans looking to mingle," said Racing SA's Apprentice Academy Manager Briony Moore.

"We will have the mechanical horse down there to give budding sports stars a chance to test themselves, and understand how fit and strong you have to be to race a horse.

"Our Racing SA Apprentice Academy jockeys will also make appearances to talk about our great sport of racing, and potentially make new contacts within the sports industry," she said.

Racing SA's Jockey Coach Dean Pettit will also speak about career opportunities in the racing industry, and the pathways available to get there including the Certificate IV in Racing and the Certificate in Sports Turf Management.

Racing SA's Industry Development and Training Officer Clare Lindop will also be on hand to answer questions from the many University and school students expected to attend.

The Festival of Sport has been organised by Sport SA, and kicks off with a panel discussion hosted by Mix 102.3 radio personality Ali Clarke.

Nick Haslam the Managing Director of LIV Golf Adelaide will feature, along with the Race Director of the Women's Tour Down Under and FIFA Women's World Cup Adelaide - Kimberley Conte.

Australian body positivity advocate and 2023 Australian of the Year – Taryn Brumfitt, is the keynote speaker on the opening night.
