Press Down returns to Melbourne

3 minute read

Peter Hardacre is searching for a genuine tempo when talented three-year-old Press Down returns to Melbourne on Saturday.

Press Down comes off a Flemington placing and Hardacre said his chances around the bend at Caulfield good come down to race pattern.

"I'd prefer him at 1200m, but there isn't those races around so we've kept him fresh staying at 1100m,'' Peter Hardacre said.

"A lot will depend on how the race is run.

"He took a bit to wind up and find his stride last time but when he did, he was solid through the line,'' he said.

Despite having his ninth run for the year, Hardacre said Press Down was showing no signs of needing a break, the Murray Bridge horseman keen to try and snag some late season prizemoney.

"He's not going to be a three-year-old for much longer so while he's in good shape we're happy to have another crack with him,'' Hardacre said.

"He seems to be bouncing through the runs pretty well. We don't have to do a lot with him, he's a sound athletic horse who has copped the work and racing holding his condition well.

"We're happy to have another crack and try and make hey while the sun is shining,'' he said.

Hardacre has no spring aspirations with the Redelva placegetter and said Saturday could be his final run this time around.

"I'd think it would be time for a spell after Saturday,'' Hardacre said.

"We aren't looking at the spring, he'll have a good break and then more than likely stay around Adelaide next time in work,'' he said.
