Jess Eaton was flung from saddle when an unraced three-year-old from the Michael Hickmott stable bucked shortly after leaving the starting gates.

She was taken to hospital for scans which revealed a stable L3 fracture and despite avoiding surgery is expected to be sidelined for at least six weeks.

"It's frustrating but I've unfortunately come to learn that these injuries and setbacks are part of the job," Eaton told racing.com.

"I'll know more about the timeline for a return once I meet with Dr Steve Kennett next week," she said.

The 2021 John Letts Medal has ridden 36 winners this season.
