Seven figure sale sum for Another Award

3 minute read

South Australian sprinter Another Award is the latest high profile mare to join Yulong Stud after fetching $1.2m in Wednesday’s Inglis Digital Sale.

The Leon Macdonald and Andrew Gluyas-trained mare came heartbreakingly close to Group 1 glory when runner-up in both the Sangster Stakes and Goodwood at Morphettville in May. The $150,000 purchase from the 2019 Adelaide Magic Millions Yearling Sale banked connections $619,475 in prizemoney from her seven wins 33 starts.

Breeder and part-owner Ralph Satchell of Willow Grove Stud said it was another great result for the South Australian racing and breeding industry.

"We thought she was a seven figure mare so it was a pleasing result,'' Satchell said.

"Yulong buy at the top of the market and they saw off some leading interstate parties late in the auction.

"It's a good result for the local industry, it gives most of her owners the chance to reinvest, which most already have,'' he said.

Satchell said it was an interesting final hour of the auction where things escalated quickly.

"We had no contact with Yulong, I know Inglis had [interest] pre-sale, and they hadn't showed their hand until late in the sale,'' Satchell said.

"They have somewhere around the figure of 580 mares on their property in Victoria, I actually woke up this morning hoping they didn't do a quick count and suddenly stop (buying), given they've been buying at the top end all year,'' he said.
