Royal Mile back and ready to fire

Group 3 winning South Australian galloper Royal Mile will have his first run since leaving the stables of Mount Gambier horseman Lee Creek at Flemington on Saturday.

Royal Mile hasn't raced since finishing fourth at Morphettville in February before Lee Creek decided to step away from training and move north to Queensland.

Life has gone full circle for the horse who gave SA apprentice Jacob Opperman the two biggest wins of his career winning the Listed Port Adelaide Guineas and Group 3 Chairman's Stakes before running fifth in the 2021 South Australian Derby.

He's now back being trained by breeder David Brideoake and his co-trainer Matt Jenkins at Mornington.

"David bred him, he was sold there and kicked goals in Adelaide,'' Jenkins said.

"The owners had a lot of interest from Victorian trainers wanting to take him on, they wanted to go with a small boutique stable and with David having bred the horse that was obviously a part of him ending up here,'' he said.

Jenkins said Royal Mile had settled into his new life at their Mornington stable well.

"He's really good,'' Jenkins said.

"Obviously he comes over in the latter part of his career somewhat and raises the bar coming to Victoria, but he has a good resume and has settled in really well.

"He's had a faultless prep so I'm really keen to see how he goes on Saturday and what lies ahead,'' he said.
