A gelding operation awaits Sunsource if he does not perform up to expectations at Flemington.

The Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young-trained Sunsource will be racing for his manhood when he lines up in a qualifier for the Victoria Derby at Flemington. 

Sunsource, along with stablemate Salou, are engaged in the Byerley Handicap (1800m) on Saturday with the winner granted a ballot exemption into either the Victoria Derby, or if a filly wins, the VRC Oaks, both over 2500m, at Flemington during the Melbourne Cup Carnival. 

A debut winner of the Magic Millions Ballarat 2YO Classic (1000m) last November, Busuttin has been disappointed with Sunsource's three runs this campaign 

Busuttin said Sunsource did not stretch out as expected when third at his most recent start behind Dolphin Skin, an opponent on Saturday, in the Listed Taj Rossi Series Final (1600m) at Flemington on July 1. 

"He's been very disappointing, and I don't think he's been genuine," Busuttin said. 

"So, he's racing for his manhood on Saturday. He's actually booked in to be gelded on Monday. 

"You look at his last run and you would say he wants further, but he just doesn't know how to let down and I don't think being a colt is helping him." 

Aside from not wanting to stretch out during his races, Busuttin said Sunsource was not giving any signs that there was anything bothering him. 

"He's fit, happy and healthy, so there are no excuses there for him," Busuttin said. 

"It's a nice race, and its nice stake money, so he can take his chance." 

Busuttin said Salou will appreciate the step up to 1800m on Saturday. 

A debut sixth over 1400m at Sale on May 24, Salou raced on the speed when second on a heavy track at Bendigo at his last start on July 18. 

"He'll get out over ground and it's a good opportunity to give a chance in a race like that for good money," Busuttin said.
