Retirement called for two fan favourites

Connections of now 10-year-old gelding Liffeybeau have called time on his racing career.

Trainer Michael Trinder said that the gelding's high rating, lack of suitable races, and the age of the gelded son of Magnus were some of the reasons behind the decision.

"The horse has done a marvellous job, but being a 10-year-old getting suitable races for him has been difficult with his rating and age," said Trinder.

"He retires sound and he has been very well managed.

"The Loane family have looked after him very well. He has been lightly raced, and I think that is the key to his longevity, and he has been totally sound throughout," the trainer added.

Trinder highlighted the Royal Rambo win on Launceston Cup Day this year as the gelding's best of the 14 career wins.

"Troy Baker rode him to nine wins and had a great association with him.

"In the end, Dianne Parish rode him to his last win, which would have been an Australian record with a 74-year-old trainer, a 55-year-old jockey and a nine-year-old horse," Trinder recalled.

Trinder said that Liffeybeau would be retired on the property of owners Phillip and Richele Loane's property in East Devonport.

His last start was a third behind Alpine Wolf in Devonport in late June, which took his prize money earnings to over $285, 000.

Gee Gee Secondover retirement bound

Gee Gee Secondover is another that has headed to the retirement paddock.

Connections have officially retired the 2020 Newmarket winner, who hasn't raced since late January.

The Team Wells-trained gelding ended his career with 11 wins and over $380,000 in prize money earnings, with other feature race wins including the 2019 Goodwood, 2019 Winzenburg and 2021 Royal Rambo.

Bingley returns

Apprentice Lauryn Bingley took a step forward to a return to race riding at the Devonport trials on Tuesday, however, she is taking things on a day by day approach.

Bingley and her partner Kyle Maskiell welcomed their first child Billy into the world in April, which has seen Bingley out of the saddle since mid-September.

"At this stage, I'm just trying to get my weight back under control and get back into a good routine.

"I'll be hopefully back in a few months if everything keeps going smoothly, but I'm just taking it day by day at this stage," Bingley said.

McCoull and Miller head to Sandown

Fresh off winning his 15th jockeys premiership, Brendon Mccoull makes his way to Sandown on Wednesday to partner up with the Imogen Miller-trained Just A Needs.

The four-year-old daughter of Needs Further was a last-start winner of the Carrick Plate in Launceston on 23 July, when resuming from a spell and will contest a fillies and mares benchmark 70 event over 1300m, which is the final event of the program.
