The Rosebud, Saturday's feature race at Rosehill, was introduced in 2011 as the first step in a pathway directed towards the Group 1 Golden Rose.

The $200,000 Listed event might not have been won by a horse who has gone on to win the Golden Rose, but that's not to suggest it hasn't had an impact on Sydney's first three-year-old Group 1 of the season.

Recent Golden Rose winners In The Congo (2021) and Ole Kirk (2020) both won the Grand Final after commencing their three-year-old seasons with a second placing in The Rosebud, while Scissor Kick, Sebring Sun and Menari all placed in Golden Rose after winning The Rosebud.

But the Golden Rose is not the only spring feature The Rosebud has impacted with Ole Kirk also going on to win the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas, while Lasqueti Spirit and Vanbrugh progressed from The Rosebud win a VRC Oaks and Spring Champion Stakes later in their campaigns.

Others have gone on to become Group 1 stars later in their careers.

Dissident, who finished second in both The Rosebud and Golden Rose, won five Group 1s and a Horse of the Year award, while Paulele, Mazu, Trekking and I Am Excited all won at the highest level after contesting The Rosebud.

This year's Golden Rose leading fancies, headlined by Shinzo, Militarize and Cylinder, will all be home in their boxes when this year's The Rosebud is run, which presents an opportunity for the eight runners left in this year's race to announce themselves.

Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott's Blue Diamond Preview winner The Instructor the only Stakes winner engaged, while Percy Sykes Stakes runner-up Tiz Invincible and Group 2-placed Cigar Flick are the Stakes placegetters.

The Percy Sykes was just the second start for Tiz Invincible who will become the first maiden to win The Rosebud if successful.

Despite that, the Ciaron Maher and Daid Eustace-trained daughter of I Am Invincible heads betting and it is wise if punters don't look too far from those towards the head of the market with four of the 12 editions won the favourite with no winner having started longer than $8.50 chance Paulele.
