Gluyas has his sights on the spring

3 minute read

Andrew Gluyas has his sights on the spring with a talented trio of horses resuming at Morphettville on Saturday.

Air Assault returns to the races following his Group 3 win in the Sires Produce Stakes while two mares – Arugamama and Party Princess - resume following some strong performances during their respective three-year-old campaigns.

Gluyas said the long goal with Air Assault would be to get to the $3m Caulfield Guineas on October 14.

"He obviously won the Group 3 last campaign here in Adelaide but we still have to learn some more about him,'' Andrew Gluyas said.

"The Caulfield Guineas would be the goal if everything fell into place,'' he said.

Gluyas said being able to secure the services of New Zealand apprentice Kelsey Hannan was a bonus following the brilliant start to her Adelaide stint last weekend where she landed a riding treble with Air Assault having to carry 61kg after the claim.

"We're kicking him off on Saturday, he has plenty of weight so it's good to have Kelsey riding who obviously hit the ground running last weekend,'' Gluyas said.

Party Princess finished eighth in the Group 1 Australasian Oaks before dropping back in trip to win the Listed Adelaide Guineas and then running a game third against the older horses behind Foxy Frida in the Group 3 R A Lee Stakes.

"Her R A Lee run was full of merit given she was probably on the canvas by then,'' Gluyas said.

"She'll roll into some nice mares races some where between the 1400m and a mile trips going forward,'' he said.

Caitlin Jones will ride Arugamama who is first-up after running down the track behind Affaire A Suivre in the Group 1 Australasian Oaks at Morphettville in April.

The daughter of Churchill was placed in both the Listed Clare Lindop Stakes behind As Time Goes By and Group 3 Auraria Stakes behind Jennilala and Gluyas said she would work her way through the grades in Adelaide to help build her profile.

"She raced really well fresh and was consistent through the carnival,'' Gluyas said.

"She's still quite low in the ratings so she can poke around here and build on that,'' he said.
