New Summer Sprint Series trainers bonus

3 minute read

Racing SA have introduced a new Summer Sprint Series in 2023-24.

Any trainer of a horse who can win two of the three Listed sprint features will walk away with a $20,000 Trainer's Bonus.

The Summer Sprint Series will kick off at Morphettville on December 9 with the $120,000 Listed Christmas Handicap (1200m).

The $120,000 Listed Durbridge Stakes (1100m) on January 27 will be the middle leg of the series which will culminate with the $120,000 Listed City of Marion Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville which has been pushed back from November and will be now run on February 24 in the lead up to next year's carnival.

"The Summer Sprint Series is an exciting new addition to the South Australian racing calendar and the new bonus will give trainers another incentive to target these Black Type Races," Racing SA General Manager Operations, Nick Bawden said.

"We have seen some very good horses come through these races and go on to feature in our best races, so we hope this series is also a launch pad for autumn," he added.

Last year Chris Bieg's Diamonds claimed the City of Marion and Christmas Handicap double, while Ryan Balfour achieved the feat a year earlier with Outlaw's Revenge.

Will Clarken is another trainer who won two of the three features in 2016, Cavaloce claiming the City Of Marion and Durbridge double.
