Early double on record day

3 minute read

Anyways Roxie, having just her second race start, lowered the 1000m record on the Hobart circuit, clocking 59.02 seconds, taking 0.38 seconds off the previous mark, which was set by Gee Gee Goldenlass in March 2020.

Anyways Roxie was heavily backed from an opening quote of $2.30 to start $1.80 favourite and led all the way, streaking clear to win by three lengths.

"She's done a great job here today, only her second start and she's learnt a lot from her first run, (I'm) absolutely rapt," trainer Jessie Bazan said.

"She's got a lovely length of stride, I'm never super confident, but yeah, glad to see her get the job done."

Bazan then made it two for the day and her first-ever training double when a new addition to the stable, Sunset Gun, ($5.50), after a near-perfect ride by apprentice Taylor Johnstone, sprinted when clear to win comfortably in the BM60 (1600m).

"It's a massive thrill. It's been a really big week, but hard work pays off.

"I'm so happy to get a win for these guys, I'm so grateful for the opportunity. She's won seven races now, and they've taken a punt on a new trainer."

It was a 100% winning record for Bazan, who took just the two horses to the meeting.
