Campbell saddles first Melbourne runner

3 minute read

Gawler trainer Brett Campbell saddles his first Melbourne runner with Royal Tyke at Moonee Valley on Friday night.

The well-travelled galloper has been around the mark in SA since coming from Victorian horseman Henry Dwyer and Brett Campbell said the 955m race was a nice option.

"The horse has been around a fair bit,'' Campbell said.

"We've been changing a few things with him as we've gone along and he's just continued to be happier and happier, and improved at the same time,'' he said.

It will be a busy weekend for the stable who saddle up two runners on their home track when metropolitan racing heads to Gawler on Saturday.

They have last-start Clare Cup winner Dazzling Prospect and Black Marmalade engaged.

"He's always had a lot of problems,'' Campbell said.

"I think we've sorted him out and he feels well at home.

"I've accepted at Bordertown on Sunday as well just in case we get some more rain as he doesn't like wet tracks, it's a strong race but running at Gawler is obviously the preferred option,'' he said.

Campbell travelled to Melbourne on Thursday with fellow Gawler trainer Daren Magro who has I'm Kenny running over the 1523m at Moonee Valley with Adelaide apprentice Ben Price engaged.

Price needs just one win to outside his apprentice claim, and partners the Michael Hickmott-trained Qeyaady earlier in the night along with Aquila Volare for Bendigo trainer Toby Lake.
