A trio of South Australian gallopers will have to overcome the visitor’s draw in the $175,000 Chester Manifold Stakes (1400m) at Flemington today.

Last-start Christmas Handicap winner Struck By will jump from barrier 10, the Peter and Belinda Blanch-trained Validated drawn alongside in barrier 11 with veteran Morvada drawn even wider in barrier 12.

Co-trainer Peter Blanch said Validated had handled his second interstate trip well with his chances going to rely on the tempo of the seven furlong feature.

"Looking at the race, we will clearly be in the second half of the field,'' Blanch said.

"So he's going to need then to run along at a genuine tempo, if that happens, I think he can finish in the top three,'' he said.

Dom Tourneur makes the trip to Melbourne to continue his association with Validated, star jockey Damien Lane takes the ride on Struck By while Linda Meech partners Morvada, who will be lining up at Flemington for a 16th time in his 71-start career.
