Gary Nickson is confident he has found the right class of race for Felix Majestic to log another win in what has been a fruitful campaign, but the Warwick Farm trainer's confidence has been slightly tempered after seeing the field.

The on-pacer has drawn the second-widest gate in Saturday's $160,000 Egroup Protective Services Handicap at Randwick.

The 1400-metre benchmark 88 event has drawn a field of only 10, but among his rivals are Cool Jakey (barrier three) and Danaustar (10), who also like to race on-speed.

"It hasn't been made easy drawing nine out of 10 and there is a little bit of pace in the race besides ourself," Nickson said.

"He needs a lot of things go his way, he needs a lot of luck in running, which might not be the case on Saturday.

"But he has done well since his last win and the track's going to be suitable for him."

Felix Majestic, who will again be ridden by 3kg claiming apprentice Molly Bourke and will carry 55kg, is preparing for his eighth start of a preparation that has featured three city wins and $256,000 in stakes.

The most recent of those wins came at his latest appearance, over 1400m in a BM78 event at Randwick on December 16 when he defeated Louisville by 1-1/4 lengths, and Nickson said he was holding together well despite being deep in the preparation.

"He's had the seven starts for the four metro wins, but he's a pretty tough horse and he's easy to train," Nickson said.

"He's a good doer, he goes home eats up, and travels to the races well."

Felix Majestic occupies a place on the third line of betting behind Cool Jakey, a last-start Warwick Farm winner, and Annabel Neasham-trained import Hellsing, who is a Listed winner in Ireland.
