Weekend Wrap: Milne's maiden metro winner, Clarken & O'Shea in top form

3 minute read

The unseasonal summer weather at Gawler couldn’t wipe the smile off the face of talented apprentice Rochelle Milnes after landing her maiden metropolitan victory aboard Second To Nun on Saturday.

"It has been a little bit of time waiting, but I think that's actually made it a little more sweet,'' Rochelle Milnes said.

It was the second win in a week for Milnes in combination with the Will Clarken and Niki O'Shea-trained mare after winning at Murray Bridge on New Year's Day, Milnes giving the galloper a perfect run behind the speed before they powered away from rivals to score.

"She's been relaxing for me beautifully,'' Milnes said.

It was a big day for the Clarken and O'Shea stable who produce a training treble to take the lead in the South Australian Metropolitan Trainer's Premiership, two clear of the Richard and Chantelle Jolly stable.

"It's a fantastic effort from the team, everyone is working hard, and the horses are running well,'' O'Shea said.

Cullen Skink continued his steady progression to make it three wins in succession with Ben Price in the saddle before Toast The Deel claimed the last race on the card with Todd Pannell riding.

"She was able to lob into a really nice spot, had a nice economical run,'' Pannell said.

"I think she's definitely going in the right direction,'' he said.

Pannell claimed riding honours with a double after Meg's Magic was successful earlier in the day for the Phillip Stokes, the second leg of a double for the dual state horseman.

It was also a memorable day for Merissa Moyle, who trained her first winner for almost 10 years, her first city winner when, Smiling From Above was successful with Alana Livesey in the saddle.
