Weekend Wrap: Clarken & O'Shea continue their top form

3 minute read

Will Clarken and Niki O’Shea are confident the best is still in front of exciting filly Kuroyanagi after her brilliant debut at Gawler last weekend.

The boom filly made light work of the small field to justify her short price with Ben Price in the saddle, the first leg of a training double for SA's in-form stable.

"She's kicked it off nicely,'' Clarken said of Kuroyanagi.

"She's got a bit of learning to come. She's a lovely type, we'll see how she pulls up whether she goes to the paddock or pushes on.

"I'm more excited about her training into her three-year-old season,'' he said.

Stablemate Second To Nun and apprentice Rochelle Milnes maintained their unbeaten association later in the day.

Will Clarken and Niki O’Shea shared training honours with Morphettville horseman Jon O'Connor who was successful with in-form mare Rockstar Meggsy and San Lucido, while reigning John Letts Medallist Jason Holder shared riding honours with in-form apprentice Jacob Opperman.

Opperman was successful early in the day aboard the Matt Seyers-trained Test The Law before former WA mare She's Greysful claimed her first local win for the Aaron Bain and Ned Taylor stable since coming to SA last year after missing starts at the previous two Saturdays.

"It was a big effort,'' Bain said.

"She's first-up for 35 days, that certainly wasn't my plan.

"She was brilliant four deep the trip and powered away late,'' he said.

At Kangaroo Island Garret Lynch took training honours with a double with Stake A Claim and Persian Empire successful in combination with Sairyn Fawke, who shared riding honours with Zoe Lloyd.

Victorian jockey Tom Madden claimed riding honours at Mount Gambier on Sunday with a double winning aboard What A Flirt for Simon Gebert before combining with the Paul Preusker stable late in the day to claim the Summer Cup aboard Hot Suspect.
