Trainer John Blacker looks to have a smart youngster on his hands, with Rubble 'N' Fudd winning on debut in the 1200m maiden in Hobart on Sunday.

The grey was a little slow to begin but quickly gathered momentum to be on the speed after 100m.

Always kept safe in the market, Rubble 'N' Fudd ($4.40) downed Rohzhae ($4.40), with Loud Mouth ($10 – $5) third.

"He's a horse going forward, and he's always shown he can gallop," Blacker said.

Jockey Taylor Johnstone added, "He jumped a little bit awkwardly, up in the air, but we got a nice run; I just knew at the top of the straight I was the winner, very impressive."

Punters lined their pockets when Blacker made it a race-to-race double, with Perola ($5.50 – $1.90) coming home powerfully to win the second division of the maiden (1200m).

Placed at her past two outings, Perola settled wide with cover midfield, but once jockey Craig Newitt pulled her to the outside in the home straight, she flashed home to grab the leaders.

"She's a filly that's progressing really well, and once she gets to 1400m and a mile, you will see a really nice filly," Newitt said.

Winning is sweet

With a couple of runs in from a spell under his belt, Sweet Lucifer, after being given a perfect ride by David Pires, raced away to make a one-act affair of the 1200m class 1.

Sweet Lucifer ($6.50) from barrier one settled fourth on the rails behind the leader, Miss Keeds, who did a bit of work to lead from the outside gate. After getting into the clear when turning for home, Sweet Lucifer quickly dashed to the lead for an impressive win by more than two lengths.

"Last start, he got pretty much the same run but was a little bit weak pushing out.

"We learnt a lot from that run; he had the same type of run today and when he got the split, he hit the line really good," Pires said.

John Keys completed an early double when Chelsea Baker gave a lovely front-running ride aboard Londiani in the 1600m BM60.

Londiani has won two of his past three starts, his only defeat being by the up-and-comer Charlie Bucket, who has since franked the form with another win.

"He's a nice horse; his run last start deserved more wraps than what he got; he's still green and doesn't really know how to let down yet," Baker said.

Despite the win and his recent form, Londiani is presently up for sale.

John Keys finished with a winning treble. The jockey's spoils were shared with Jye McNeil, Craig Newitt and David Pires, all riding doubles.
