And the winner is Ms Tasmania

3 minute read

Ms Tasmania runs up to the spruik.

The sky is the limit for exciting youngster Ms Tasmania, who blitzed her rivals in the $85,000 Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) in Launceston on Sunday,

After drifting back to a little worse than midfield in a race described as "messy" by her rider Sigrid M Carr, Ms Tasmania ($2.15 – $1.25) charged toward the leaders approaching the home turn and then sprinted clear to win by more than two lengths from Zoete's Rock ($8) with almost three lengths to It's Jagger Time ($61) third.

"My god it was messy, she actually jumped well, but with the pressure around us, she wanted to over race.

"She was copping bumps left right and centre, I got pushed back in, and I thought how am I going to get out, but I had the horse underneath me to take me where I needed to go, and god she unleashed and with the girls (owners) on the line it was just so exciting," Carr, who also trains the filly, said after the race.

"She's amazing she really is, she's still got so much growing to do, her maturity levels are growing all the time and I'm excited for the future."

Added to the first prizemoney of $53,550 is a $10,000 bonus for the filly being the first all-female-owned horse across the line.

Sunday's win also showed that the 2YO of the season is not a one-horse race, with Ms Tasmania set to challenge the unbeaten Geegees Mistruth for the title.

Stevo/Jordo winning combo

That winning combination of Glenn Stevenson and Codi Jordan was at it again, with Philosophers Stone running his rivals ragged in the 1200m BM68.

From the outside gate, Jordan shot the 5YO straight to the front, set a quick tempo and had her rivals off the bit and chasing before the home turn.

Stevenson was full of praise for Jordan, who convinced him to run the horse after he had some doubts.

"I said it's a tough race, it's a sticky gate, but she said I'll jump and run lead and win," Stevenson explained after the race.

"It was all on 'Jordo' this one."

"It was definitely the hottest field we have contested so far. That was his fourth run in the state, and he hasn't run a bad race yet," Jordan added.

Eastcoast via the cape

Promising 3YO filly Eastcoast Miss ($6.50) appreciated the drop back in grade, flashing home to win the 1400m Class 1 after looking to be in an awkward spot approaching the home turn.

After being unplaced in the Thousand Guineas (1600m) at her previous run, Eastcoast Miss was always travelling well, but rider Anthony Darmanin had to wrench her away from the rails and go wide to get a run, once balanced the filly rattled home to score from her stablemate Speed Rock ($26) with Es And Es ($41) third.

The first two placegetters are both trained by Tanya Hanson and Kyle Maskiell.
