Ladbrokes Blog: Randwick-Kensington Preview – 14th February 2024

3 minute read

A seven-race program will be contested at Sydney’s Randwick-Kensington on Wednesday, February 14th.

There has been some inclement weather in the Sydney metropolitan region throughout the last seven days and at publish, we're looking at a track in the Soft (5) range, while the rail will be set out five metres around the entire course.

RACE 1 - 2:20PM: The Agency Real Estate Handicap (1550m)

Good race to kick off the program and I thought that Sweysive looked a key winning chance third-up from a break.

Sweysive returned to action with a fair effort and finished down the order at Warwick Farm early last month, but was far better through the line and finished only a couple of lengths behind the winner at his latest.

Fitter third-up and out to the 1500m this week, this looks a far more appropriate task for him.

RACE 2 - 2:55PM: Prague Yearlings Selling Now Plate (1100m)

Just four of the ten confirmed starters in Race 2 have previous raceday experience including Elegant Artist.

Elegant Artist was fair at the trials prior to debuting but hit the line well to only just miss in a Canterbury maiden.

She's around six weeks between starts but looks to have a bright future, and I think that she can go one better this week.

RACE 3 - 3:30PM: Ranvet Handicap (1400m)

Centrestone was a tough watch for punters last time out and I am keen to stick with him at Randwick-Kensington on Wednesday.

The Hinchinbrook mare was good in two metro starts up in Brisbane when resuming this time, but finished down the order in Saturday BM78 company at Rosehill third-up.

Dropped back to the midweeks last time out, he enjoyed a nice run in transit but was blocked a run turning for home, letting down with an eye-catching turn of foot when he finally found clear air to miss by less than half a length.

He's hard fit and with better luck this week, can strike back.

RACE 4 - 4:05PM: Precise Air Handicap (1400m)

Xidaki has been knocking on the door of a win since resuming and gets another great chance in Sydney on Wednesday.

The Peter & Paul Snowden-trained gelding hasn't missed placing in four career starts, and found form around some good horses in his first two runs back this time before missing in a photo here a fortnight ago.

He steps out this week in peak order and is draw ideally under Kerrin McEvoy.

RACE 5 - 4:40PM: Ghaiyyath First Yearlings Handicap (1800m)

Naval Seak turned in a good performance to finish second in a similar race here a fortnight ago and is primed to go one better this week.

The Snitzel gelding was unlucky to only just miss in BM70 company at The Valley in late December, and while he was clearly outclassed in a mile race at Flemington two back, a return to the Sydney midweeks at his latest heralded and improved performance.

He's in peak order and Tommy Berry can give him every chance from a good draw.

RACE 6 - 5:15PM: Vinery Yearlings Handicap (1000m)

This looks to be the strongest race on the program and there's a case to be made for a few of them, including Tellez.

Having finished midfield in a couple of provincial sprints first and second up in December, the Harry Angel gelding returned from a freshen up with a strong performance for second, beaten less than a length by Detendu on Australia Day.

The small drop in trip shouldn't be anything of a concern, while he's another whose winning claims have been enhanced by a perfect draw and senior jockey.

2 Units Tellez

BET NOW: Kensington Race 6

RACE 7 - 5:50PM: Hyland Race Colours Handicap (1400m)

Kadall faces another rise in class at Randwick-Kensington on Wednesday, but he has continued to improve with each run back this time, and it does look the next logical step for him.

Having worked home well for second behind a smart Sir Arite in Class 1 company back in December, the Capitalist gelding charged through to score in the same class at Wyong last month before repeating the dose in BM68 company last time.

He's hard fit and the 1400m is ideal.
