Big first-up effort expected by filly at Wyong (Tues)

3 minute read

The high flying Gai Waterhouse/Adrian Bott stable will send one of their promising gallopers to the Wyong Race Club meeting on Tuesday. Three-year-old Zoustar filly Tautou ($2.50 favourite on TAB) resumes from a spell in the opening event the Insurance House Fillies and Mares Maiden Handicap (1100m).

Campbell Rawiller, son of Nash, has been riding work for the stable and he will be aboard Tautou which was placed in her only three starts during the winter on soft tracks. The filly debuted at Gosford on July 6 and she led early only to go down by 0.26 of a length.

Second-up she led and was run down late at Canterbury on July 26 and last start again at Canterbury Tautou was two lengths clear 200m out only to be run down by the smart Untouchable Legend. She has had two recent trials.

Kristen Buchanan's filly Kervette ($4) is due for a change of luck in the LevelMaster Maiden Plate (1300m). In early 2023 she took on the likes of Red Resistance and Tom Kitten on metropolitan tracks but she did not race for 11 months. After two nice trials in January Kervette was gallant first-up at Wyong when beaten a nose by Koby Girl with a good gap to the third placing.

The 3yo was unlucky last start at Newcastle on February 10 when beaten less than a length in a quality Super Maiden. She had a lovely run behind the speed but inside the 100m she could not secure clear running and was twice checked and chopped out. Kervette then hit the line hard. Lee Magorrian has ridden her in both starts this preparation and he has the mount on Tuesday. From a lovely barrier she should race on the speed.

The highly successful Bjorn Baker/Josh Parr combination can chalk up another win with Luna Field ($3.20) in the Commsys Maiden Handicap (1100m). The Deep Field filly was a $3.20 favourite on debut on the Kensington Track on January 17 when fourth behind the smart Ballet D'esprit. In her only other start the filly was an odds-on favourite at Gosford on February 1 and after leading she was run down and finished second. Baker will apply the blinkers on Tuesday and she draws perfectly in barrier 4.

Tyler Schiller has been booked to ride the promising Mickey's Medal ($5) in the BJ Howes Metaland Benchmark 68 Handicap (1350m). The 3yo resumes after two very good performances at Newcastle before a spell. He stormed home from midfield to win at Newcastle on September 30 and his last start was October 14 at Newcastle when runner-up to the talented Territory Express. The Annabel Neasham-trained gelding made up many lengths from the tail of the field in a recent Randwick trial.

RACE 1, INSURANCE HOUSE MAIDEN HANDICAP, 1100m: Tautou ($2.50 favourite on TAB) is pretty quick and has good metropolitan form. She has been placed in all three starts during the winter. The filly led in the straight in two Canterbury starts and one at Gosford. She hasn't been beaten far in all three starts and she has trialled okay. Cross Your Heart ($3) went close in her only start on February 8 and first starter Summer Soiree ($3.90) won a recent Randwick trial.

RACE 3, INFRABUILD PROVINCIAL MAIDEN PLATE, 1600m: Piplup ($2.60 fav) is first-up after two recent trials. In both starts first prep the filly has been well back and finished strongly into fourth place. She will only carry 53½kg and she needs the mile first-up. Himeros ($4.60) is a former Victorian placed in his only two starts in this state and he will run well. Tom Cruising ($4.40) was placed at Nowra last start.
SELECTIONS: 9 PIPLUP, 1 HIMEROS, 4 TOM CRUISING

RACE 4, LINCOLN ELECTRIC CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1600m: The locally-trained Gardenzio ($2.60 fav) has speed and hasn't been far away and was runner-up here two starts back. Stanczyk ($3.50) justified the short price when an easy breakthrough winner at Tamworth and will again take tossing. Noble Tess ($3.90) was strong on the line scoring over 1600m at this course last start and is a promising 3yo filly.
SELECTIONS: 4 GARDENZIO, 3 STANCZYK, 8 NOBLE TESS

RACE 5, LEVELMASTER MAIDEN PLATE, 1300m: Kervette ($4) is racing in top form in her two starts this prep at Wyong and Newcastle. She was beaten a nose by Koby Girl first-up at Wyong in fast time. Second-up at Newcastle on February 10 she was badly cut out in the straight when in a winning position. Bo Katan ($5.50) was very good when beaten a length on this track first-up. Khaznah ($6) was placed here on debut recently.
SELECTIONS: 8 KERVETTE, 4 BO KATAN, 9 KHAZNAH

RACE 6, BJ HOWES METALAND BENCHMARK 68, 1350m: Mickey's Medal ($5) resumes after an impressive trial when he came from second last to make up many lengths in the run home. He was strong to come from midfield to win at Newcastle in September and was runner-up at Newcastle in a good field in October. Obvious Step ($4.80 equal fav) loves this track where she is trained and Innervoice ($5.50) came from last to beat a subsequent winner on this track on January 18.
SELECTIONS: 3 MICKEY'S MEDAL, 1 OBVIOUS STEP, 5 INNERVOICE

RACE 7, COREGAS MIDWAY CLASS 1 HANDICAP, 1200m: Oakfield Triumph ($4.80) had good Randwick Midway form in the winter and has only had one run since. He was beaten a long neck at Randwick in June and was placed at Randwick in May. He has got no speed and got well back when he needed the run first-up here on February 8 where the gelding was beaten 3.3 lengths. Rush Hour ($2.80 fav) will be fitter for a solid fifth first-up at Rosehill on February 3 and Fludway ($5) has a place chance.
SELECTIONS: 1 OAKFIELD TRIUMPH, 2 RUSH HOUR, 3 FLUDWAY

RACE 8, MECHPRO SOLUTIONS AU BENCHMARK 64 HANDICAP, 1100m: Triskelion ($4 fav) has only had two starts for an easy win at Canterbury and a close fourth at Gosford. Azayaka ($4.80) has won two of her last three in the country and Full Revolution ($14) can improve.
SELECTIONS: 2 TRISKELION, 8 AZAYAKA, 10 FULL REVOLUTION
