17 nominations have been received for next Wednesday's $300,000 Group 3 Ladbrokes Launceston Cup.

Following his Cup wins in 2022 and 2023, Aurora's Symphony is set to create history as the first horse to win three successive Launceston Cups and is the highest-rated horse among the nominations for the race.

Following his devastating win in the Ladbrokes Hobart Cup last start, Aurora's Symphony's handicap rating has risen from 103 to 107. He is anticipated to be given 61.5kg in Launceston when the weights are released on Thursday afternoon.

The Symon Wilde-trained 7YO gelding carried 59.5kg to victory in Hobart and is gunning for the $100,000 Ladbrokes Double Cups bonus in Launceston.

The first eight horses across the line in the Hobart Cup have been nominated for Launceston, including Alhambra Lad, who disappointed as the $2.40 favourite.

Alhambra Lad worked in Hobart last Tuesday morning, and trainer Patrick Payne has opted to continue his Tasmanian campaign, which began with a dominant win in the Summer Cup.

Victorian trainer Ciaron Maher had the runner-up in Hobart courtesy of Wyclif, and he may have a bigger team in Launceston, nominating Alakahan, Herman Hesse and Mankayan.

The final field for the Ladbrokes Launceston Cup will be released on Friday morning, and the barrier draw will be conducted in the Ladbrokes Sports Bar on-course in Launceston, at 18:00 on Friday evening.
