Geegees Mistruth ($1.40) confirmed her status as the best two-year-old in Tasmania with an emphatic win in the $150,000 Listed Gold Sovereign Stakes (1200m), overcoming some trouble just after the start in Launceston on Sunday.

Now unbeaten in four runs, Geegees Mistruth was caught wide early but took the lead after 300m and, from then on, never looked like being beaten.

Victorian filly Flattered ($3) ran home gamely but was never a match for the winner; the only gelding in the race, Zoete's Rock ($14), finished third.

"These young horses take a hundred times more effort than an old horse, she's just a beautiful filly by the champion Wordsmith.

"It's fantastic for the family; with the passing of Paul (Geard), things got hard for Libby and the family to win a race like this after all that's been," an emotional trainer Stuart Gandy said after the win.

"You see her in the mounting yard; she's four hands bigger than anything else.

"She's still a little immature in the head, but every day we checked her legs, and they kept coming up really good; her attitude has stayed good."

Premiership leading jockey Anthony Darmanin has been aboard all four wins.

"I got lucky, we began a bit awkward, and I nearly fell off and I could see what was going to happen, we were going to be posted so I elected to keep pressing forward and then once we got there she completely switched off and she was good late," the rider said.
