SA's own Todd Pannell seeks second group 1 Sangster

3 minute read

Todd Pannell will try and rewind the clock four years when he partners Snapped in the $1m Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes at Morphettville on Saturday.

Pannell was the last Adelaide jockey to win a Group 1 feature when he partnered Bella Vella to a memorable victory for the Will Clarken stable in the 2020.

"The race has been good to me and nice to get another ride in the race,'' Pannell said.

"It would be nice to snag another home town Group 1,'' he said.

Snapped is no stranger to Adelaide success having won two of her three Morphettville starts with her only unplaced run coming when 4th behind Benedetta in the Group 3 Irwin Stakes last time out.

Pannell said the Freedman-trained mare had the ability to be in the finish if the race is run to suit.

"She ran well last time in the Irwin, she was last and making good ground, we were a long way off the on the corner,'' Pannell said.

"It's all going to be down to who gets the right run and the right amount of luck.

"With the rail back in the true the track should race fair, I think it will all be pace related,'' he said.
