Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for October 13.
Australian thoroughbred Tab meetings are today held at Caulfield, Doomben, Launceston, Warwick Farm, Ascot Park and Port Lincoln.
CAULFIELD: RACE 3 @ 2:35 PM
The Maher and Eustace stable hold the aces here. MANKAYAN (4) comes here with a month between runs after just lacking the killer punch at the end of 2400m last time. Chance he is better suited to this sort of test and likely to land in the first half from the good draw. Similar spot awaits ALCYONE (9) who has run really well in two this time in. Just had to wait on a seam last time and conceded the in-form winner first run. Hard to beat. Mankayan's stablemate DURSTON (1) also comes here fresh. Ran an eye-catcher at his Australian debut and clearly has the talent to be winning races like this. Would expect the other stable runner KING'S CHARISMA (6) to improve after an even debut. Was a year off the scene prior to that. SELECTIONS: Can be a perfect race for Mankayan.

ASCOT: RACE 6 @ 4:17 PM
TREASURED STAR (13) found one much too good on debut heavily-backed and then won a trial easily before winning the Maiden easily also at prohibitive odds. Draws out but keeps the top hoop and fitter the filly can win again and go on. SAFETY FUSE (12) won the Maiden at Northam and that also stacks up. Peaks now and gets in well with the 3kg claim. TYPE WON (8) has been around the mark since the Belmont win and is back a bit in grade. She will use the rail and the 4kg claimer replaced Pike. STORM COMMANDER (4) resumes and has trialled well. A leading rider sticks from that and the gelding has shown enough to consider. SELECTIONS: Keen on Treasured Star.
DOOMBEN: RACE 8 @ 5:25 PM
NOT A CHOICE (9) is a leader who improved in good order before walloping the Maidens this track/trip. Draws to control the race and the promising mare is yet to challenge her Sydney peaks. In the premier barn and she can go on with it. HE KNOWS (5) peaks and has missed a lip his last two starts in Sunshine Coast 62s. The gate is awkward but he rates strongly and should go close. MAXCALEMMA (6) won the Maiden here first-up and is another with stronger Sydney figures in the back-form. Draws out as well but is is chance. BENGAL BANDIT (1) has switched from Victoria on a 55 day return. Was close up twice at Flemington before the near miss at he provincials the latest. Is good enough and gets Orman. Keep very safe. SELECTIONS: Backing Not A Choice to win.
PORT LINCOLN: RACE 4 @ 2:20 PM
SPANISH HEIRLOOM (2) is fast and brought strong city form to the 64 win at Halidon. The 2kg claim helps with the weight lift and she draws to control the race. Rates clear and just has to run out the extra 200m to be winning. TANNER (3) switched from Victoria and faded at the provincials before the placed run this track. He can make the quinella again. ARTFUL AMBITION (7) ran into the placings in the same contest and prior was much better beaten a half-length. Draws well and can get into the finish. KINGSON (6) looked in need of the first-up run despite presenting off a trial win. Keeps the 3kg claim and has plenty up the sleeve. Fitter and can fill a slot. SELECTIONS: Backing Spanish Heirloom to win.
WARWICK FARM: RACE 2 @ 1:50 PM
The very well-bred GRACILISTYLA (5) has been thereabouts in both starts to date and will be improving with racing. Can continue to make progress and take this out. YAGOONA (4) wasn't disgraced on debut and will take plenty of benefit from that race day experience. Can earn a cheque. VANBURG (7) will take improvement from the debut effort and is a place chance. PODIUM (2) best of the rest. SELECTIONS: Gracilistyla to win.
