Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for April 17.
Major metropolitan meetings are today held at Randwick, Caulfield, Eagle Farm, Ascot and Morphettville.
RANDWICK: RACE 9 @ 4:30 PM
PROBABEEL (1) simply didn't handle the wet track in the All-Star Mile when gone a long way out. Since kept fresh (35 days) and looks very well treated under these conditions. Gets a dream run on the map and anywhere near her best and she blows these away. ODEUM (11) shapes as the main danger as while she has had an unusual preparation this has always been the main target. Lands leaders back and should be in this for a long way. COLETTE (2) was safely held in the Ranvet, though that piece of form still leaves her well placed and she should improve sharply getting back to Randwick. VANGELIC (12) the next in line from the favourable draw.
SELECTIONS: Very keen on Probabeel.
As a FREE Racing and Sports offer, below is the Randwick Card.
CAULFIELD: RACE 8 @ 4:40 PM
HOW WOMANTIC (3) has ticked over nicely in a trial since being knocked off at Mornington in what was a return to form. Gets the gun jock here and the draw sets up for her to get a cheap time of it in the first couple. Great chance for her to break through and win. FELICIA (6) has trialled nicely and looks sure to run well fresh after her terrific winter/spring prep last time around. LAVERROD (1) beat How Womantic at Mornington and must be a great chance again with Pike across to keep the ride. PAUL'S REGRET (11) and LORD VON COSTA (4) are others to consider when playing multiples.
SELECTIONS: Backing How Womantic.
EAGLE FARM: RACE 7 @ 3:17 PM
JUNCTION (5) has been good in all three runs this time in and gave a good sight last start when he led and fought on to go down by 0.7L at this course and distance. That will have brought him to his peak and he looks ready to strike. EPIC GIRL (6) has been racing well at 1200m, winning at this course and finishing within 3L of the winner at Doomben last start. Yet to win at this longer trip but her form is sound. SO YOU WIN (2) is better known over further but has won at this distance and trialled nicely. Could sprint well fresh. BANJO'S VOICE (8) is building a good record at this journey having won at Gold Coast last start. LOVE YOU LUCY (4) has won two of three attempts at this venue and could show more third up.
SELECTIONS: Junction is ready to strike. Backing to win.
ASCOT: RACE 7 @ 3:40 PM
BIG BADA BOOM (4) came off almost two months off when a gallant second here two weeks ago. Will be fitter for that and should be harder to catch. PLETTO (7) is racing in great form and kept coming when third here two weeks ago as favourite. Extra trip might assist and she's a threat. MISS MARIETTA (3) is chasing four straight and no reason she can't achieve that after finishing too well to win three weeks back. Include. OFF WEGO (9) and BLACK SHADOW (6) have claims.
SELECTIONS: Big Bada Boom to win. Trifecta 4-3,6,7,9/3,6,7,9.
MORPHETTVILLE: RACE 7 @ 3:46 PM
It's an Auraria Stakes focusing on one in particular. STEINEM (7) brings in great form. She did well on debut and then powered away in town. Every bit more ground for her is a bonus. Will drop out and run on. PARURE (1) has beaten the boys in the Autumn Classic over this journey. Not a great draw for where she will race. ECUMENICAL (2) did well two back but then faded out last week. The blinkers are back on now. SIRILEO MISS (4) could improve enough to find the placings. Should want the 1800m. SHOJIKI (3) has a poor gate but is pretty genuine.
SELECTIONS: Steinem looks promising.
