Today’s Horse Racing Tips – March 24

3 minute read

Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays for Australian TAB meetings on March 24.

Muswellbrook Race 9 @ 5.40pm

They will be low-flying here as Akeed and Iamacrumpet match motors from inside draws. QUEEN ABLAZE (7) raced handy and just missed in a driving finish last start over 1200m at Wyong. Fresh for this shorter assignment. Will appreciate the hot tempo up front and should finish over this top of this field. The flying IAMACRUMPET (12) returns after four months in the paddock. Scored a big all-the-way win over this course and distance first up last prep. Will be very hard to reel in. AKEED (9) is another speedster resuming. Won his last two runs before spelling over longer trips than this. Has trialled twice leading into this return and is expected to be prominent. LIPS 'N' LASHES (6) next best ahead of CALL ME BRAD (5). SUGGESTED PLAY: Confident win bet #7 Queen Ablaze.

There is hope for an improving track, but a likely rain soaked Rosehill faces punters on Golden Slipper day, easily one of the best days of the year. The James Cummings trained Viridine hasn't won in over 500 days, but prepared to ignore that stat as he appears a new horse since gelded. Read More

Orange Race 4 @ 3.30pm

Not a big field but either Age Of War or Reiby Rhymer will press for the early lead and establish a good tempo. AGE OF WAR (1) led from barrier rise to record an emphatic win over this distance at Nowra last start. Useful filly who has been kept fresh with a five-week let-up to stay at 1400m. Progressing nicely and can win again. DICTATION (4) put the writing on the wall last time when she came with a powerful burst to just miss over 1375m at Cowra. Very fit now after three runs back and after a soft run from gate two will be ready to produce in the straight. TRAFFIC COP (5) can be hard to follow but a good 2nd at Narromine over the mile two runs back is a strong pointer for this. WHANAU FORCE (3) and BEL BLASTER (2) are minor chances in a race that drops away outside the top three. SUGGESTED PLAY: Keen on #1 Age Of War.

Bairnsdale Race 6 @ 4:05pm

Rocky’s Echo will cross over and looks the one to lead the large field. GRAND BERNINI (4) will use the rail and has placed twice since the Moe Maiden win. Made a ratings spike missing a lip the latest as favourite and rates to go one better for the leading yard. SPRINGER (14) also races handy and will roll over from the wide gate. Has gone close the last three and gets another chance on the quick return. PERFECT COMMAND (8) was tracking well before the latest and has trialled well since. Has to be considered off the freshen. CORAL ROSE (13) gets the claim and is also in the mix given a good ride. SELECTION: Keen on #4 Grand Bernini.

Sunshine Coast Race 3 @ 2:05 pm

Despite the big field it is very hard to find any speed here so jockey tactics will be crucial. FAST DEALER (1) resumed from a 161-day spell last start with an eye-catching 5th over 1300m at the Gold Coast, his first start under Toby Edmonds. By Dundeel so will relish the extra distance and meets a mediocre bunch today. NIGHT WHISPER (5) recorded his eighth minor placing in 26 starts when a fast-finishing 2nd over 1400m here last time. That run would usually pique the interest but he is a serial placegetter. Each-way again. HOLLY'S SONG (7) just whacked away at the tail of the field recently over 1640m at Doomben. That was her first try at the mile so will improve in this moderate field. ACEME (9) and GOTHIC ROMANCE (10) for the exotics. SUGGESTED PLAY: #1 Fast Dealer has found a winnable race.

Bunbury Race 8 @ 7:77pm

STRONG HEART (2) has won two of the last three heavily-backed including the latest. Keeps Pike and he can push forward today from the rail. The gelding clearly rates to win again despite the 310m dip in trip. WORLD IS YOURS (1) deserved the win at Pinjarra as favourite and is a Durrant improver who gets the chance to repeat. SAN CRISPINO (3) has some strong Ascot efforts under the belt and is an on-pacer who rates well. Has claims. Not much between a few of the others with YOU AM I (5) possibly the best of them. SELECTION: Keen on #2 Strong Heart.

Naracoorte Race 5 @ 3:35pm

Plenty run along and are capable of making the pace over the middle distance. MARMAN (2) brings strong form and missed a lip last start at the provincials. Rates well and doubt the 200m dip in trip will stop him winning again. CHALLICUM (3) won easily here from the speed as favourite and it was deserved. Keeps improving and will go close again. HASTA LA SPEC (4) led and improved sharply winning this grade at Bordertown. Gets the chance to repeat using the rail. COSTA LANTE (1) was much better at Edenhope and is in the mix. SELECTION: #2 Marman will see it right out and will take beating.
