Vulcan Too Hot To Handle

3 minute read

The Shane Baertschiger trained Vulcan appears well placed to make a winning debut when due to contest the second event at Singapore this evening.

Formerly trained in New Zealand, Vulcan finished second at his only start for the Danica Guy stable, before being sold and transferred to Singapore.

Lining up over 1100m at New Plymouth, Vulcan was somewhat out-sprinted at the top of the straight, before knuckling down late, only to be narrowly edged out behind Jakkalbomb.

The latter has since gone on to be Group 3 placed over the mile and it appears a good piece of form for a Singapore maiden.

Off the scene for 196 days, Vulcan has had the two trials in the lead up, most recently winning by 9.25L over 1000m.

Don't want to get too excited about the winning margin, the overall time was just fair (1:01.61), but he still appears in good order for his Singapore debut.

He sported the blinkers in his second trial and they notably go on this evening.

From the inside draw he looks to receive all the favours and should be prominent from the outset with John Powell aboard.

When assessing Timeform weight adjusted ratings, he rates well on his New Zealand debut and if able to run up to that level of form, he is sure to make his presence felt.

The Donna Logan trained Gamely has finished second at his last three starts and looms as a major threat from the good draw.

Yet to break through from 13 starts, Gamely has placed on seven occasions and rates well on best form.

A noted front-runner, he is expected to press forward and should be in this for a long way.

The Lee Freedman trained Yulong Express is also in good form without being able to break through.

Much like Gamely, he has been right around the mark, placing in four of his five starts, most recently finishing third behind Admiral Winston.

He has never missed the money at this course and distance and from the favourable draw he has to be respected.

Of the rest the David Kok trained Fight To Victory appears the next in line.

Rock solid in both starts to begin this preparation, he should be right at his peak third up and is more than capable.

Good luck and happy punting.
