Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays for major Australian TAB meetings on May 18.
Major Australian thoroughbred meetings are today conducted at Doomben, Flemington, Rosehill and Morphettville.
Doomben: Race 6 @ 2:20pm
Expecting the open class sprinters to set a good tempo. ISAURIAN (7) is a capable Godolphin sprinter resuming. Was in good form last campaign with wins at Rosehill and Sandown and was stakes placed at his past two outings. Unbeaten in three fresh runs and with two good trials under the belt he can maintain that first-up record. MR MARBELLOUZ (2) has been freshened since toughing out a narrow win in the Listed Ascot Quality at this course and distance. Has won five from seven here and rarely runs a bad race. MEET MR TAYLOR (14) is another with a fine strike rate and impressed with a 6L romp here when resuming. Unbeaten second up and looks capable of stepping up to stakes grade. WHYPEEO (9) is talented and could be an improver on a firm track second up. SONY LEGEND (12) should be included after finishing a nose off Mr Marbellouz last time. SELECTIONS: Isaurian is unbeaten fresh and has trialled well. Backing to win.

Flemington: Race 6 @ 2:50pm
Indigo Lass looks prominent and Putting On Airs can come across. SURE KNEE (1) might not have quite seen out the trip in Adelaide last time. That was a strong contest at the top level for fillies and it returned a big overall rating. Her effort to finish midfield is still great form for this and she was awesome at the mile behind the same winner two back. She's the one to beat. FIDELIA (2) pulled one from the fire last time and the mile looks a tick for her now. Has plenty of talent. So does the well-bred TIDES (13) who is lightly raced and improving. Step up now but liked the run last time. SEALED (16) didn't have a lot of luck last time. Must be considered. SELECTIONS: Win bet Sure Knee back to the mile now.
Rosehill: Race 8 @ 3:55pm
Another great contest with a host of promising gallopers set to take their place. Not a lot of obvious speed on paper, but still expect an even tempo. DEPRIVE (6) went to the paddock in very impressive form and remains a big watch fresh for the James Cummings stable. Has looked very good at the trials and appears destined for better company. Schofield knows him well (won 2/2) and he should prove very hard to beat. DESERT LORD (13) also won well prior to a break and while better over further, he appears more than capable of sprinting well fresh. NEWSFAN (5) should have won prior to a break and she too has trialled very well in the lead up to her return. Has to be kept safe. ORIENTAL RUNNER (16) continues to race well, next best. SELECTIONS: Very keen on Deprive.
Morphettville: Race 2 @ 1:06pm (AEST)
Not overly fast here. That may make a few take off. It's a Centaurea Stakes which is not so strong and CLEARLY (1) brings in interesting form. The former European mare improved well second up, charging home two weeks ago and was unlucky. Another two furlongs should only help. REMEMBER THE NAME (2) backs up after a dominant win at Caulfield. Indications were this was the plan. She always gives you a sight. SNOGGING (3) went so much better second time around. May not need to get back so far here. INDRABEEL (8) chases the hatrick. They were in easier races though. MANNING ROAD (7) has battled hard in longer races. SELECTIONS: Keen on Clearly.
Ascot: Race 6 @ 5:50pm (AEST)
Speed to burn here headed by Tommy Standup, Free Trade and Stirling Estate. Classy filly LEADING GIRL (9) looks the one to beat first up from a six-month spell. Closed last prep with a 3rd in the G3 Champion Stakes for fillies over the mile here. Won a recent trial and looks ready to resume a winner for the Williams/Pike combination. The lightly raced four-year-old FREE TRADE (8) is a danger after winning comfortably over this course and distance last time out. Still improving and if not burnt-out by a speed battle up front can certainly win again. Former DK Weir-trained PREVAILING WINDS (4) is first up for six months and making his WA debut. Placed at Hamilton under 61kgs to kick off last prep and a good recent trial indicates he is on target for this return. ROSEBUSH (10) has come back in great order this campaign and is definitely in the mix down in the weights. SELECTIONS: Banking on the class of #9 Leading Girl to prevail.
