The weather might suggest otherwise but the Flemington card on Saturday hints at spring being around the corner.
The Aurie's Star has long been a spring kick-off point and it has brought together a deep and interesting field this year. There are plenty of angles and finding the winner is far from straightforward but we are hoping that it is in the fifth race on the card where Twilight Run goes as our bet of the day.
He gets back to Flemington where he won well two starts back before tackling a stronger race at the Valley last week. There he went back and put his fate in the hands of others. The leader got control and that was all she wrote. Twilight Run had no hope from where he was but he closed strongly and essentially did all he could from where he was placed.
He now backs up with the run at the trip under his belt and finds a softer race. Ducks are lining up there and we are keen to back a talented horse to make the most of that scenario.
For an each way play we are rolling on to the last on the card where several are very evenly matched.
Each way odds appeal here about the Chris Waller-trained Humbolt Current who measured up to several of the key chances here first up and should have more upside than plenty of those now.
Ballet Master was the winner there, and goes with a good chance again, but we are backing Humbolt Current, who ran well and has a nice profile from OS, to jump out of the ground second up at Flemington over the extended mile.
