Costello produced a solid effort on the heavy deck first up at Randwick, before taking a good step forward over 1800m last start when arguably the run of the race.
Unbeaten third up previously, he appears set to relish the step up to 2000m and has drawn to get a lovely smother for Jason Collett.
Tested against our best staying 3YOs last preparation, Costello held his own in both the Rosehill Guineas and ATC Derby, though not overly sure he loved the conditions.
Suspect he will be allowed to work through his grades this preparation as he looks to have a fairly lofty ceiling.
Costello beat home two subsequent winners last start and confident he can go one better on Saturday.
The Chris Waller trained Adana is only 1/13 but strikes a very winnable assignment on Saturday and at his best, he should have them covered.
Tried against some of our better 3YOs in the Autumn, Adana notably started 7/2F in the CS Hayes Stakes [1400m] (no luck), before going to the line untested in the Australian Guineas [1600m].
This looks a complete reboot with just the sole soft trial in the lead up.
Hugh Bowman legs back aboard and while likely to get a long way back, he should prove very hard to hold out late.
Does line up against a few unknowns, however if he runs up to the level we know he can, his rivals will have to make a very big jump to beat him.
