Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays for Australian TAB meetings on August 14.
Five TAB meetings are held across Australia on this Wednesday at Warwick Farm, Sandown, Doomben, Belmont & Balaklava.
Warwick Farm Race 2 @ 2.00pm
Not a great deal of early pace on paper. ACHONDRITE (2) was scratched from Gosford yesterday to be kept for this. Caught the eye when resuming over 1400m at this track last start, making up a stack of ground in the straight to get up for 3rd. Lightly raced mare who will get a lovely run from the inside alley and is sure to be hard to hold out over the longer trip today. ORIBELLA (9) handled the quick step up in distance when she closed hard to win her maiden over this trip at Gosford recently. Progressive filly who looks ready to take this next step. ALMERHERI (3) has put in two good runs since resuming, the latest a 0.5 length 4th to the in-form Helga over 1400m at this track. Will improve further today as she gets out to the mile. EL GUERROUJ (8) savaged the line on debut at Hawkesbury last start. Certainly deserves consideration. SELECTIONS: #2 Achondrite to justify the short quote.

Doomben: Race 3 @ 1:45pm
Gratuitous may be the one to lead. COMBATIVITE (3) has been going close and peaks now coming to this trip for the first time. The racing style suggests it will suit and the claim is handy. CLASSIC PEARL (2) comes back 340m but is racing well and should cope. She will get every chance from the low gate. LUVDISC (8) missed a neck last start and didn’t get it easy. The mile suits and Byrne replaces the apprentice. GRATUITOUS (5) will be around the mark. SELECTIONS: #3 Combative gets to the right race.
Sandown: Race 6 @ 3:55pm
TAVISTOCK DANCER (8) can improve on first up performance in tougher class and fitter for a trial since. Excellent winning chance. CAPE RICHARDS (5) made a long run into the money latest and among the chances here. SPANISH POINT (6) is a former Irish galloper suited at the trip and makes Australian debut as a gelding. Rates among the leading players. ROLAND GARROS (3) is fitter now and should appreciate the step up to 1800m here. Hard to knock winning form. BUENA VELOZ (1) is aided by the claim and looks an each way chance. SELECTIONS: Tavistock Dancer can improve sharply.
Balaklava: Race 8 @ 5:30pm
Cool Maverick can lead. ARTISTIC FOCUS (12) has missed a whisker twice with a blip in between and was unlucky the latest after settling last. He gets a low draw and can win this if she goes with them. EXALTED HONEY (7) has gone close the two runs in coming from the back. He’s ready to win and just needs the gaps to open. GOOD LUCK CHUCK (2) was plain third-up in stronger than this but missed a nose prior He gets the 3kg claim and looks a genuine chance. EXALTED DEE (1) has more to offer second-up and keep safe with the 3kg claim. SELECTIONS: This is a tough program. #12 Artistic Focus brings good figures and gets his chance back in grade.
