Karisto To Fire Second Up

The Lee Freedman trained Karisto was only narrowly beaten first up and appears set to strike in the fifth event at Kranji on Friday night.

Making his return off a 110 day break, Karisto didn't have a lot of room from the inside draw and loved the way he found the line late.

Beaten just a neck behind Siam Blue Vanda, he wasn't marked far off his peak and is expected to improve sharply second up.

Admittedly he hasn't won in some time (573 days), but is well placed in this small field and should be able to lead/control from the wide draw.

Karisto has notably never missed the money second up (3/3) and has placed in two of four attempts over the mile.

While only a bunch finish last start, the clock suggested it was a strong piece of form and happy to take it on face value.

When assessing Timeform weight adjusted ratings, he holds a decent edge and is off a winnable mark.

Karisto is already a winner at the mile and if Powell can pinch a few cheap sectionals out in front, he should give a bold sight.

Stablemate Foresto won narrowly at this course and distance last start and while stepping up in grade, he rates well and looms as a major threat.

Foresto has placed in 6/13 attempts on the polytrack and has placed in 8/12 attempts over the mile.

From the inside draw, he looks to receive all the favours for Beau Mertens and if able to hold his form, he is sure to make his presence felt.

The ever consistent Magic Wand steps up from 1200m, but is off a career peak performance last start and commands respect, despite the wide draw.

A noted flier on the polytrack (placed 4/4), Magic Wand has also won two of three attempts over the mile and is certainly more than capable.

The much in-form CC Wong continues his association with the five-year-old and while likely to get a long way back, he should be very strong late.

Of the rest the Hideyuki Takaoka trained Caribbean Lady appears the next in line, despite disappointing last start.

Good luck and happy punting.
