Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays for Australian TAB meetings on December 5.
Four TAB meetings are held across Australia on this Thursday at Coffs Harbour, Kyneton, Townsville & Ascot.
Coffs Harbour: Race 5 @ 3:45pm
Mystic Brook should be able to get over from the wide gate and lead. CONTROLTHEWITNESS (8) stepped up to the mile for the first time last start and ran on stoutly to finish 3rd. Lightly raced three-year-old who will derive great benefit from that run and is cherry-ripe now after three runs back from a spell. THE KROC (1) scored a convincing with over 1900m at Kempsey two runs back. Failed to run on in a far stronger race over the same journey at Gosford last time. Has won twice at this distance so must be considered coming back in grade. CONDOVER HALL (2) chased The Kroc home at Kempsey before recording a game win over 2000m at Port Macquarie nine days ago. Very fit and does have form at the mile so keep him in mind. MYSTIC BROOK (10) is racing well and will give a bold sight out in front. SELECTIONS: #8 Controlthewitness is ready to win.

Kyneton Race 5 @ 3:30pm
It’s not clear who will lead the small field. THE EXECUTIONER (3) presents off stronger city races including two at Listed level. Is in good hands and this race is winnable. NIGHT GUY (2) won on debut in a form Maiden and has trialled for the resumption. Gets the rail and the yard strikes at nearly 20% with first-uppers. The colt is feared. LAKE TANGANYIKA (6) won the Maiden easily and it was deserved. Gets the 3kg claim and a repeat wouldn’t totally surprise. MANHATTAN WAR (1) can also build on the Maiden win. SELECTIONS: Looks a good lick-off point for # 3 The Executioner.
Ascot: Race 3 @ 6:20pm
Bruny Island can lead from Top Trade. BRUNY ISLAND (2) was beaten 1L resuming at Geraldton heavily-booked and was a bit new. Brought strong form from the first campaign and fitter will be hard to beat at the mile drawn the rail. ROSSITER BAY (9) presents off two solid efforts this venue and the rise in trip should suit. Will likely settle back and hit the line. THE DIVINE WIND (1) will use the low gate and peaks off the 1L defeat at Bunbury. He looks right in it. AHYOKA FOREST made a ratings spike placing here three weeks ago and that also stacks up. SELECTIONS: A tough program. #2 Bruny Island looks a solid bet in Race 3.
