After recording four prior placings at stakes level, The Celt broke through with a smart win in this Group 3 race, his eighth win (12 placings) from 39 starts. He travelled nicely back in eighth place, one off the rails, improved between runners at the home turn, then sprinted quickly to hit the front at the 50m before winning in good style. Valour Road raced outside the leader (Flow) at a moderate tempo then went to the front at the 100m, only to be caught in the closing stages for second. Abdicator settled in fourth place, moved up at the 200m and then fought well for third. Stageman was near last to the home turn and came with a late run in the sprint home for fourth while the favourite Flirtini was settled just beyond midfield and then ran on reasonably well for sixth, seeming not to back-up after her good run in last week's Winterbottom Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m).
