Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays for major Australian TAB meetings on January 5.

Meetings are today conducted at Wyong, Sunshine Coast, Warrnambool, Strathalbyn, Mornington, Ballina and Bunbury.

SUNSHINE COAST: RACE 1 @ 1:55PM (AEDST)

Deep State, French Vida and Tenkaye can all show early dash. Threepoint Missile (5) made an encouraging return when he found the line well for a 2L second at this course and distance. That was his second placing from just four outings and he should be improved. Top chance. BETTER THAN GROOVY (3) hasn't raced since taking on better company at Eagle Farm in October but prepared for his return with a trial win. Blinkers go on for the first time. Threat. LOVE YA BLUE (2) is consistent and can progress off a resuming placing at this venue. DEEP STATE (1) has trialled and could be an improver this time around. SELECTIONS: Threepoint Missile to break through off a good resuming run.

WARRNAMBOOL: RACE 5 @ 4:00pm

Genuine early speed engaged. Rohlon Drunk will likely take up the early running from Elderflower, Day On The Drink and Brobak. Elderflower (11) impressed on debut when leading all the way in good time when long odds on. Has drawn ideally and should be suited by the extra distance. He'll make his own luck on speed and may have more upside than some of his rivals. SPRYZEN (2) is a winner second up and despite not having started at the distance should be competitive here. He ran well in town first up and looks suited in this race despite drawing wide. TOFF LOVE (6) has resumed in good form and looms as a threat third up. ROHLON DRUNK (1) wasn't far away on this track last start and was in winning form prior to that. Keep safe. SELECTIONS: Follow up on Elderflower.

WYONG: RACE 6 @ 4:35PM

Nine's Enough, She's Ideel and Money Heist all have early toe so the backmarkers are right in this. Rebukes (5) has been disappointing since a maiden win to start the campaign. Better draw this time and up in trip could easily bounce back. READY'S GIRL (8) has commenced her latest campaign in encouraging fashion. MONEY HEIST (11) has speed to burn and should take catching around Wyong based on her maiden success at Canberra. SELECTIONS: Siding with Rebukes.
