Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays for Australian TAB meetings on January 25.
The Carrington Stakes highlights racing at Randwick while the Dillon Stakes and Blue Diamond Previews take place at Caulfield. Meetings at Ascot, Sunshine Coast (for the Sunshine Coast Cup) and Gawler round out the metropolitan fare.
Randwick: Race 7 @ 5:00pm
Cradle Mountain can work over for a soft lead. SOUTHERN LAD (11) has improved with each run this prep and was rewarded for that progression with a Benchmark 94 win here last start over 1200m. Untried over 1400m which he rises to here but was strong through the line a fortnight ago like a horse who will have no issue with the extra furlong. GAULOIS (6) resumed well at Eagle Farm last month. Has been kept ticking over with a Rosehill trial. REDOUBLE (5) also returns from Queensland where he produced a fast finishing second to Vega One in the Magic Millions Cup. PASSAGE OF TIME (4) returns to 1400m. Won convincingly at this course and distance two back before being left flat footed behind Southern Lad over 1200m last start. CELLARMAN (3) off a freshen up next elect. SUGGESTED PLAY: Southern Lad straight out.

Ascot: Race 3 @ 2:07pm
Lacevinsky should be able to lead, Round The Point has some speed, Baron Bostock, Advocator and Neat Action can all be handy. LACEVINSKY (3) is bursting to win a race and did a big job last time when claimed late at Pinjarra. Hard to beat once again. CITY CIRCLE (2) struck her best form when finishing strongly to score almost four weeks ago. Drawn the inside and must respect. MORGS FREEMAN (4) is a consistent type who will get back and be hitting the line hard late. ROUND THE POINT (6) and BARON BOSTOCK (1) are worth including in the chances. SUGGESTED PLAY: Lacevinsky to win.
Caulfield: Race 5 @ 3:20pm
Shush has pace and can use barrier one and Shezawitness is likely to press on from out wider. WEDGETAIL (4) ran well last time without a chance to really build momentum when he needed to. WILMOT PASS (1) got the run on him there and was good enough to make the most of that. Think the formline is strong and giving Wedgetail a great chance of turning the tables and winning here with a clearer run throughout. Wide draw should afford him that. Things are obviously much tougher for GRAND ADMIRAL (5) now but he won despite looking in need of the experience on debut and can come on for that second up in the blinkers. SHEZAWITNESS (3) should go forward and make the barrier work for her. She's got the talent to be in the finish. SUGGESTED PLAY: Wedgetail can win with a clear run.
Sunshine Coast: Race 9 @ 5:30pm
Not a lot of obvious speed for an open class sprint but the field size should create some pressure. CHAPTER AND VERSE (6) has done a great job this campaign, highlighted by a win in the Group 3 George Moore Stakes. Closed strongly for a close fourth at the Magic Millions meeting and hasn't missed a place at this course. Expect him to be hard to hold out. TYZONE (3) has had four weeks off since he raced wide but kept fighting for a third at Eagle Farm. Rarely far away at this distance and is closing in on a win. SCALLOPINI (11) got well out of his ground but closed well when midfield at the Magic Millions meeting. Missed narrowly when resuming and has a fine third up record. RIVER RACER (10) beat Chapter and Verse when a close second on Magic Millions Day. Must respect. PENNINO (13) backs up after a win last week and is worth thought again. SUGGESTED PLAY: Chapter And Verse is racing well. Backing to win.
Gawler: Race 5 @ 3:01pm
Dr Dependable will be up the front again where he likes it. DR DEPENDABLE (1) then will be hard to beat as he was two weeks ago. He boxed on from near the front and gets a nice claim. He is just racing too well at the moment. EPERDUMENT (4) was a good winner three back but has mixed form since. Will be running home strongly here. LOSTARC (2) missed by a nose last time. Should be at his fittest now. COFFEE AMOUR (6) is never far away at the end. Has a light weight chance. FLOW METER (3) can place on his best form. SUGGESTED PLAY: Easy to stay with Dr Dependable.
