Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays for Australian TAB meetings on January 30.
Five TAB meetings are held across Australia on this Thursday at Scone, Pakenham (night), Stony Creek, Doomben & Albany.
Doomben: Race 4 @ 4:50pm
Expecting a solid speed. SOCIAL ORDER (11) has made a promising start to her career. Wasn't entitled to get as close as she did here most recently. Her two runs this preparation have been huge. Getting better all the time. Will lap up the 1650m on offer here. Looks one of the better bets on the program. WESTHAM (4) doesn't have the best winning strike rates but he's never far away. Led and gave a sight here behind Alderman most recently. Tricky to catch but does give himself every chance on the speed. ULTIMATE RING (3) off some solid placings of late will have admirers. BASANITE (5) for the exotics. SELECTIONS: Social Order. Backing to win.

Stony Creek: Race 3 @ 2:00pm
Not clear-cut who leads. CITY BEATS (2) is in good hands and go on the solid effort two runs back. Gets a 4kg claim and is clearly the one to beat in a weak contest. SUCCEEDANDCONQUER (8) is an ex Queenslander who had some backing at his first run for the Young yard. Rates well at best and the claim gets him in light. DESERT DUEL (6) wasn’t beaten far at the Bridge a month ago in easier and isn’t the worst. SELECTIONS: #2 City Beats is short, but may be the best on a very average program.
Scone: Race 6 @ 4:15pm
Plenty of pace likely from the big field but the leader doesn't jump off the page. HOLY SUNDAY (3) was a real eye-catcher last start over 1350m at this track, winding up strongly from worse than midfield on the bend to miss by a whisker. Lightly raced and with further improvement can take this out. SAPPHIRES SON (8) lacked a turn of foot when midfield recently over 1206m at Port Macquarie. Awkward draw but needs this trip so should play a role in the outcome. CURIOSO (2) was trapped wide and couldn't get involved on debut over 1100m at Scone recently. Drawn well and over a little more ground today is a likely improver. KRAYZELBURG (11) off a four-week freshen up and with a sharp drop in the weights is in the picture also. SELECTIONS: This is an ideal progression for #3 Holy Sunday.
Pakenham: Race 6 @ 8:30pm
Early speed across the barriers and a number are capable of leading. GROOT (8) placed here two weeks ago running his best race. He can box-seat from the low gate and is clearly the one they have to beat. WESTERN SUN (7) resumes with Walker sticking and has ability. Races on the grass for the first time and expect him to come back better. MILORD (1) won the BM70 and then met trouble at Caulfield and forgive. Drops in grade and the claim gets him right into it. PRELIMINAIRES (6) has just missed the three runs back and has claims reaching peak. SELECTIONS: #8 Groot is ready to strike and the current $3.00 looks generous.
