Sydney Specials: Rosehill - 22nd February 2020

3 minute read

In a very similar mould to last week, a heavy track faces punters on Saturday with a number of our stars kicking off their Autumn campaigns.

While not wanting to sound like a broken record, Saturday looks very tough and for the most part it's probably best to just watch and learn.

The race of the day, the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes sees 11 line up with eight resuming.

Sure you can do your trial form and yes they have wet track form to guide you, but if horses aren't fit, it really doesn't matter.

It's always dangerous betting at this time of year with Grand Finals close to two months away.

However I do feel there is an angle in the Hobartville and while obvious, at the moment you are still getting what I feel is a fair price about his chances.

Only seen once in the Spring (third in the Roman Consul), many were still quick to right off Microphone, I'll admit he hadn't trialled the best, but there was a glimmer last start.

His first up effort was better than it first appeared and he knuckled down well to win at Caulfield last start.

Takes on much better company on Saturday, but catches them all on the hop and the majority should be better over further.

Yes they can sprint well fresh, but the map looks ideal for Microphone with Bowman expected to press forward and slot in the 1X1.

He's unbeaten at 1400m and while I do feel he is now looking for further, the testing track should play right into his hands.

Godolphin is really starting to hum and expect Microphone to continue that trend on Saturday.

In the fifth event the Mark Newnham trained Black Magnum appears well placed to go back to back in the fifth event.

A winner of 5/14, all those wins have come fresh (3/4) or second up (2/3) and he sets up well despite rising sharply in grade (Bm76 > Bm94).

He's placed in 7/9 attempts over this distance range and should have no concerns with the prospect of a wet track.

At the weights he rates top off his first up win and he generally improves with that run under his belt.

Looks to lob into the perfect spot for Dolan (6:2-2) and with even luck he should be in the finish.
