Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays for Australian TAB meetings on February 28.
Eight TAB meetings are held across Australia on this Friday at Canterbury, Casino, Wagga, Sale, Moonee Valley, Kilcoy, Sunshine Coast & Albany.
Canterbury: Race 7 @ 9:15am
Wimlah and Buckin' Beauty to roll forward at an even clip. INTREPIDACIOUS (9) looked the winner only to be bloused late when resuming over this course and distance four weeks ago. Trial winner since so expect she has come on significantly since that run. Big chance to go one better. PERIGORD (7) took over at the furlong and was punched right out for a game win over this course and distance last start, his second victory in succession. Somewhat of a specialist at this trip and can win again. BUCKIN' BEAUTY (4) led all the way and held on by the skin of her teeth last time out over this course and distance. Consistent mare with strong claims again out of the inside alley. MONTE DITTO (6) chased hard but just failed to pick up the unbeaten Pinvincible here a fortnight ago. Must be respected. SELECTIONS: Good race. #9 Intrepidacious maps beautifully and is going to be hard to hold out.
Casino: Race 1 @ 1:35pm
Allied Invasion should go forward in a race with no early pace on paper. ALLIED INVASION (1) found the lead soon after straightening but was gone a few strides later and dropped out over 1720m at Grafton last Thursday. Placed three of his previous four runs in the 1200-1530m range. Suited dropping back in trip and finds a very weak maiden today. MISS CRONULLA (6) did a better job last time to finish 3rd over the mile at Ballina when fresh from a one-month break. Fitter and poses a threat. MISS PIERPOINT (7) has whacked away without threatening at all three runs to date. Likely improver in this company. ROYAL GEORGE (9) has had three runs back and is ready to improve. SELECTIONS: #1 Allied Invasion should be winning.
Wagga: Race 2 @ 1:50pm
Not a frantic tempo expected - All Starr Courage, Sundus and Miss Elsie May will be prominent. SUNDUS (12) stalked the leader into the straight and tried hard but couldn't run her down when resuming over 1000m at this track last start. Fitter and with less pressure up front will be very hard to catch. BIG DAY OUT (11) made it three minor placings from as many starts when he rattled home to get up for 3rd over 1000m at Albury last Saturday. Huge chance on the quick back-up over an extra furlong. Hard to see the winner coming from outside this pair. The unfashionably-bred four-year-old mare WEGEE LOU (7) is trialling well and worth considering on an each-way basis on debut. The consistent I'LL TELL YOU MISS (5) is next best. SELECTIONS: Very keen on #12 Sundus.
Sale: Race 7 @ 4:30pm
Dratini can lead from Troubleshot and Asphidian. DRATINI (2) is a former Kiwi who won by a space before leading again beaten 1L as favourite at Moe. Draws to control the race and clearly rates to win again. NO NONSENSE NED (8) resumes for the local yard and has won twice fresh. He can use the rail and a competitive run wouldn’t surprise at odds. SLY CHOICE (3) resumes form a handy gate and is likely to return more forward and improved. TROUBLE SHOT (1) has more to give off the first-up run, but has to manage the wide gate. SELECTIONS: #2 Dratini looks much better than these. Short but sweet.
Moonee Valley: Race 7 @ 9:30pm
Gazzara and Lucente may be the pair to run them along. DARK PEARL (2) brings very strong form down from Sydney and missed a lip at this distance range and level at Randwick 13 days ago. Gets Lane and expect him to be very hard to beat. TATALINA (7) has missed a lip the last two at this distance range with the latest this grade. She’s a chance to go one better. GOOD IDEA (6) hasn’t been far away and should be better prepared for this trip this time around. Gets Oliver first time and could surprise. GAZZARA (4) impressed winning the Sandown 16 days ago up to the 1400m. This is tougher, but is in light with the 3kg claim and is a player using the rail. SELECTIONS: #2 Dark Pearl looks well-placed.
