Wangaratta: Race 6 @ 3:20pm

Early speed should be strong with Pariano, Magnavale, Reine Happy and Fermanagh Lad likely to vie the early lead. Yulong Knight and Maritana will be prominent. Competitive race. RHAMES (8) is lightly raced and progressive. He has an impressive Trial win under his belt to prepare him for his first up assignment and he's a winner of two of his four starts to date. He closed late to just go down in town when first up last preparation and has plenty of upside. CASHED UP (4) is another lightly raced horse who is building a nice record. He impressed at this track last start when winning comfortably and can go on with it third up here. Hard to beat. ICON (2) impressed last start making it two wins on end and can't be underestimated here despite the rise in grade. PARIANO (7) raced too keenly last start and can improve sharply back around a bend. SUGGESTED PLAY: Rhames appeals in a competitive race.

Mudgee: Race 4 @ 2:45pm

Golden Avenger will lead on his ear. GOLDEN AVENGER (5) is a promising galloper. He's won two from three this campaign. Ran his rivals into the ground at Scone three weeks ago. Holds plenty of upside. Bowman will rate him to perfection from the inside alley. FAST TALKING (2) resumes. Posted back to back wins for Nestor and looked a worldbeater but his two recent efforts were only plain. Freshened. Creeping up in the weights but is classy enough to win this. Stablemate SNEAK PREVIEW (1) was spelled after winning a good highway at Kembla Grange on Gong day. Going to the paddock airborne is a good sign. Two trials to fit him up for this. SIPHARDERSON (3) has been a good honest horse for connections. Takes on some promising types with plenty of upside though and a place chance looks best. RISK AND REWARD (4) for the multiples. SUGGESTED PLAY: Golden Avenger gets the nod.

Sunshine Coast: Race 3 @ 3:32pm

Good early speed with Eeyore and Tinder prominent. ANCIENT AZTEC (1) missed a lip here thirds up on the heavy making a ratings leap. That's the stand-out figure for this and can be winning with conditions to suit. AHEADOFHISTIME (6) trialled well at Doomben before the easy first up Maiden win. Draws to advantage and has more up the sleeve. Will go close. TREVELLO (4) resumes as a gelding and owns a sharp city trial. Looks further improved and has to be kept very safe. BELLE'S PLUCK (2) has also trialled well in town for the resumption and he can fill a slot. #1 ANCIENT AZTEC likes it wet and gets a form hoop.

Balaklava: Race 5 @ 3:50pm

WICKED SCANDAL (4) is having second run back from a break and finished a nose from the winner at Strathalbyn. Arguably should have won. Can only be improved and looks set to go one better. Take catching. PARTY SET (6) ran fifth last start at Strathalbyn over 1200m when beaten 4.5 lengths. Big track suits and expected to go close. FAY'S JOY (3) ran fourth last time out at Bordertown. Makes plenty of appeal. TILBURY (7) was safely held last start when 11 lengths away at Lock. Has claims if she can reproduce her win at Ceduna two starts back. SETTLE THEN LIFT (1) next best. SUGGESTED PLAY: Wicked Scandal the one to beat.

Colac Race 4 @ 3:00pm

Good early speed with a number capable of leading. HEAVENLY BRIDGES (3) brings strong figures and just missed the latest. She has the speed to clear the tricky gate and can go one better with the handy 3kg claim. LIL' ANGEL (6) led and won the Maiden comfortably resuming for the new yard. Expect her to improve again and be in the finish. STAGE FRONT (1) has been racing in stronger and comes back in grade off a 52 day freshen. No surprise to see him feature in this company with the 3kg claim. BOOMSHAKE THE ROOM (8) hasn't been far away and can fill a slot. SELECTION: #3 Heavenly Bridges is in good hands and finds a winnable assignment.

Esperance: Race 8 @ 7:50pm

Strike Force and Swift Platinum can run the Cup field along. MEDIA BARON (3) has won the last two at Ascot and is was comfortable the latest coming hard from the back. Not sure where he gets to from the rail but the middle distance is a nice progression and on weights and measure's he's the one to beat. BUNKER BUSTER (2) looked the part at this trip the last campaign and resumes after 141 days for the new yard. It's an ask, but he draws low and Harvey's booking suggests he's ready to go. SUPERIOR SMILE (4) will push forward and has been racing well. This is tougher but he will see it right out and can make the finish. BARRY'S RABBIT (5) is a local peaking off a lip defeat here this trip and will be around the mark. SELECTION: #3 Media Baron can win with a touch of luck.
