Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays for Australian TAB meetings on March 19.
Seven TAB meetings are held across Australia on this Wednesday at Kensington, Sandown, Doomben, Ascot, Gawler & Launceston.
Albury: Race 6 @ 4:30pm
Plenty of early speed with Mount Horeb prominent. MOUNT HOREB (5) was run off his legs first up over 955m at Moonee Valley. Has an outstanding profile for this race - the winner of 5/6 at this track, 4/9 at this trip and 2/3 second up. Won in open company over this course and distance by a big space to close off last prep. Hard to fault at attractive each-way odds. SKY CALL (7) settled back in the field then launched late to win by a widening 1.3 lengths in a Country Championship qualifier over 1400m at this track last time out. Kept fresh and will be looking to peak at Randwick next run. Still demands respect down in the weights. STEPHAN (1) made late ground when the race was all over first up over 1000m at Canberra. Second up form is good and this looks an easier assignment. VICEROY (2) has won 3/8 first up so keep him safe off a 20-week break. SELECTIONS: #5 Mount Horeb is excellent each-way value.

Naracoorte: Race 7 @ 5:00pm
Good early pace across the barriers with Autumn’s Best and Miss Forbidden candidates to lead. AUTUMN'S BEST (2) placed first-up in a strong form Maiden, and then led and recorded a comfortable win. Gets the handy claim and looks capable of controlling the race and taking the next step. JOHN THE RODENT (3) is pacy and brings two good efforts to the third-up run. Will find this easier than the provincials and gets his chance. NEVER SHORT (1) improved two back and then was slow off and didn’t get into it as favourite. LA TESTORA (7) and SPACE EQUITY (4) also deserve consideration. SELECTIONS: Not the easiest card to nail one. #2 Autumns Best is on the improve and will back on an each way basis.
Newcastle: Race 9 @ 5:30pm
Golden Tycoon, Sir Elton and It's So Obvious will run the big field along at a fierce tempo. ASHARANI (10) was coming off a seven-week layoff when he stormed home and just failed to pick up Trumbull over this distance at Randwick last start. That run should top him off beautifully. Meets the top-weight 2.5 kgs better for that narrow defeat - can reverse the result. TRUMBULL (1) was first up from a 14-week spell when he recorded that dogged win at Randwick 19 days ago. Has won 3/4 at this trip but 59 kgs from a wide gate will make the job a bit tougher. Too good to leave out. OXFORD TYCOON (7) showed a wonderful turn of foot to easily score at Canterbury recently over 1100m. Best form has been short of this distance but expect Kim Waugh has him at his peak for this so he should get trip okay. SIR ELTON (8) has been freshened up since he worked very hard in front before tiring to miss a place at Canterbury five weeks ago. Won a subsequent trial by panels so looks ready to bounce back to form. SELECTIONS: #10 Asharani to take out a very deep Provincial Championship qualifier.
Pakenham: Race 6 @ 8:30pm
Laundy can lead. RAPTURES (10) missed a nose resuming off a Listed race and was four wide on pace before running on stoutly. That reads highly for this and he will take beating for a leading yard. LAUNDY (4) is fast and won the Maiden by a space on debut before running favourite here this trip and just found Locko too good. Draws to control and is sure to keep improving. FAIRY WAND (8) brings strong form to peak and Oliver goes on for Lane. Has the pace to manage the tricky gate and should be right in the finish. LOCKO (1) was also in the mix building on the win. SELECTIONS: A number on the card should win but are too short to tip. #10 Raptures provides a bit more value at the $3:50 + and will be tough to roll.
