Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at metropolitan TAB meetings for May 23.
Eagle Farm: Race 8 @ 3.35pm
VEGA ONE (8) looks ready to win. He has run on strongly to finish a length off the winner in both starts since a spell, the latest when fourth in the Group 3 BRC Sprint. Proven third up and is suited back to Eagle Farm having won two of three attempts here. OUTBACK BARBIE (15) is a capable mare who kept chasing and finished just in front of Vega One when a resuming third at Doomben. Her record at this track isn't as strong but she is too good to dismiss. KEMENTARI (1) resumed from a long break with back-to-back placings in Sydney and hit the line well in the BRC Sprint. He may want further but will be near his peak so look for him late. DEEP IMAGE (11) improved plenty when beaten a nose in the BRC Sprint and has won four of six here. Also has strong third up form so can show his best. WINTER BRIDE (12) has a trial win under the belt and should be kept safe. SELECTION: #8 Vega One to peak and win third up.

Randwick: Race 1 @ 11:30am
OVERLORD (7) closed off very well late behind Peltzer last start and no appears set to relish the step up to 1300m. Bowman sticks and being out of Red Tracer, he is sure to relish the sting out. Drawn to settle closer and appears well placed to turn the tables. PELTZER (2) proved too good on-speed last start when leading throughout at this track over 1200m. Up 2kg off that win and may have a bit of work to do from the wide draw. That being said, he is still unbeaten and trending the right way. PERFECT RADIANCE (12) won well on debut at Newcastle and while this is a lot harder, she measures right up and has to be respected. SELECTION: Very keen on #7 Overlord.
Murray Bridge: Race 3 @ 1.06pm (AEST)
OPEN MINDED (1) should then be able to push through and control this race. He was showing speed over shorter than this and now comes back to easier company. He will handle any type of going as well. REALLY DISCREET (4) drops way back from Listed racing in the carnival. From the gate she will have no excuses. ROBE BAY (8) does have ability and gets a nice claim but might need this run. KAYSERI (7) was never a chance from back there in the Euclase Stakes. Could be placed. SELECTION: Keen on Open Minded. Really Discreet the danger.
Flemington: Race 9 @ 4.38pm
THE ASTROLOGIST (11) returned from a lengthy spell with an eye-catching 3rd over 1000m at Caulfield a fortnight ago. Scored second up last prep so expect improvement off that promising first up effort. ROCCABASCERANA (6) was runner-up to Garner over this trip at Morphettville at Listed level first up. Dropped out in a disappointing effort in the G2 Euclase last time at 1200m. Back in grade today and this trip is more to his liking. HILO (1) has been in great form in Sydney this prep following a gelding op. Ran on late and just missed last time out over 1250m on the Kensington track. Back in trip but a solid tempo down the straight should suit. ALBURQ (5) has found the line well to grab a couple of 2nd prizes in his two runs this prep over 1200m at Sandown. Well in after the claim and is one to watch for late in the piece. SELECTION: Keen on #11 The Astrologist.
Belmont: Race 6 @ 5.10pm (AEST)
SHOWMANSHIP (13) is a promising type who was impressive on debut then unlucky at only other start. Trialling well and clearly the horse to beat. PLATINUM BULLET (10) got too far back last time when beaten by a smart type and could easily atone here if something goes wrong with the favourite. Definite chance. ALTANI (8) was too strong when resuming as favourite and while loses Pike should run well. REWRITE THE STARS (16) and GLASGOW GIRL (4) are genuine each-way hopes. SELECTION: #13 Showmanship to win. Save on Platinum Bullet each-way.
