Today’s Horse Racing Tips – 24th June 2020

3 minute read

Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays for Australian TAB meetings on June 24.

Racecourse : Canterbury Park.
Racecourse : Canterbury Park.

Five TAB meetings are held across Australia on this Wednesday at Canterbury, Sandown, Ipswich, Belmont & Murray Bridge.

Canterbury: Race 4 @ 3:10pm

Galahad's Quest should lead comfortably from Holy Reign and Showminder. SHOWMINDER (4) returned from a 21-week spell with a dogged win last start over 1400m at the Kensington track. Had to be used up early from a wide gate that day and looked to be struggling on the turn but knuckled down to get the job done. Honest gelding who generally holds the form second up so can win again. HOLY REIGN (5) travelled up on the pace and boxed on well for 3rd in a similar race to this on a heavy track a fortnight ago. Very fit gelding who will stalk the pace and prove tough to hold out. GALAHAD'S QUEST (7) contested the same race here as Holy Reign last start, leading most of the way but finding Baanone a little too strong in the closing stages. Should dictate terms again and will be hard to run down. SAVIGNE (9) was safely held first up over 1300m at Warwick Farm. Can improve in this more suitable race. SELECTIONS: #4 Showminder the best on an unappealing card.

Murray Bridge: Race 3 @ 1:50pm

The Bull McCabe will cross over and may be the one to run them along. THE BRUMBY (14) finished well on debut on the Pakenham synthetic and he has switched to SA on a 23 day return. Vorster rides for the leading yard and he can win this without much improvement. BOLT BY (12) debuts for a good barn and is likely to have ability. Needs a good ride but has to be kept safe. Ditto REAL REASON (13) who debuts for the Stokes yard. THE BULL MCCABE (6) wasn't beaten far at The Parks before spelling and returns after 228 days as a gelding. He has the speed to manage the wide gate and the market will tell with him as well. SELECTIONS: #14 The Brumby will be further improved and the McEvoy galloper sets a reasonable standard.

Ipswich: Race 5 @ 2:50pm

Hard to identify the leader in what looks like a leisurely run early doors. HIGH POWER (3) was held up for a run on the turn then let down nicely once clear to finish 3rd at Eagle Farm last start over 1815m. Genuine gelding who hasn't won for while but has raced against much better company for some time now. Looks perfectly placed today by Kris Lees. MOMENTUM TO WIN (10) made a dash to the lead before the corner then kept going to register a strong win in a Class 3 over 1800m at the Gold Coast last time out. Doesn't win out of turn and is up in grade today but at the weights makes plenty of appeal. TATCEE (6) knuckled down late to get up for 2nd when second-up over 1400m at the Gold Coast recently. Needs this trip at this stage of the prep. Consistent mare with excellent each-way claims. FAIRY ME HOME (8) flashed home for 3rd over the mile at Eagle Farm 11 days ago. Finds it hard to win so the short quote in early markets is not appealing. SELECTIONS: #3 High Power finds the right race and on the third line of betting is excellent value.

Sandown: Race 7 @ 3:55pm

A number of potential leaders and they will fly over the short sprint. PINYIN (7) came from the back to miss a lip resuming at Flemington in better grade relishing the heavy track. She's had a month to get over that and rates the one to beat with Price's 3kg claim. BLESS HER (10) is up in grade with weight relief and seeks the hat-trick. The wins have been on slow surfaces and the improver will be right in it again. MOCKERY (3) is fast and may control the race. Won the 70 here by a space on the heavy, and then found the grade a bit rich at Flemington. She benefits from the 3kg claim and can bounce without surprising. BOMBSHELL BELLE (5) draws to ride the speed and did that winning the 64 by a space at Swan Hill. She peaks now and is well in the mix. SELECTIONS: #7 Pinyin hasn’t won for a while, but is well-placed to win this contest. Another that interests today is #2 Walking Flying in Race 3.
