The Melbourne Mail: Flemington - 4th July 2020

3 minute read

It's Winter Finals Day at Flemington and as always it produces a deep and interesting card of winter racing.

It's always good betting on Winter Finals Day, but with many of the races between exposed formlines from the preceeding weeks, it's not always easy to find bets that are particularly interesting.

The two-year-old races give us something to work with this year though, and we've managed to find both our best and our best each-way in the two juvenile heats. Get in and get the cash early!

The favourite in the opener is Sense Of Honour and, while prices around 2/1 may not seem any great spoil, she looks well placed to take care of these after closing well from a hopeless spot first time out at the Valley.

That was the second time in as many starts that her closing effort has hinted (strongly hinted...) at there being plenty more to come and down the straight six she should get the chance to use herself a bit more efficiently.

Her stablemate Jabali Ridge was about as good at the Valley, but he seemingly lacks the upside of the filly. There was nothing to turn the head among the Sandown form. The Felon won nicely enough at Pakenham but faces a much sterner test. And Savannah Cloud also ran very well on debut but rushes here just seven days on. All bits and pieces. We don't want bits and pieces, we want the winner - Sense Of Honour.

And from there we ignore the most likely winner of the third and look at some slightly overpriced bits and pieces...

Cherry Tortoni appears to be a good horse, but Toyz On Fire  has shown some talent as well and we fancy her to show even more out to the mile third up after a pair of strong closing efforts in the lead up.

She ran the fastest 400/200m of the meeting at Sandown last time and looks like relishing a mile now. Landing D. Oliver is hardly bad news either, riding with his tail up chasing Craig Williams in the premiership race with just four meetings to go. Oliver will fancy his book against Williams on Saturday and Toyz On Fire shapes as one of his better chances. Give it a 10 please Ollie!
