Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays for Australian TAB meetings on July 8.
Seven TAB meetings are held across Australia on this Wednesday at Grafton, Warwick Farm, Sandown, Doomben, Belmont, Narracoorte & Alice Springs.
Grafton: Race 4 @ 2:15pm
A cracking tempo certain with Toto prominent. TOTO (9) returned from a 69-week spell with an encouraging 2nd last start over this trip at Scone, looming up at the furlong but finding one better as his run peaked. Will take a lot from that hitout and should improve enough at just his third career run to open the account. FURPHY (4) raced on the speed but wide so the effort to finish just a head from the winner first up this trip at Ballina was gallant. Drawn poorly but with a bit of luck in the run is a real threat. MARSHALL DILLON (8) started in the red on debut over 1200m at Casino but had to settle for a close 3rd in a thrilling finish. Definite contender out of the inside alley with blinkers going on. LORD JOHN GREY (7) looked a bit stiff on debut at Taree recently and could take this out without surprising. SELECTIONS: Some promising types engaged but happy to be with #9 Toto.

Naracoorte: Race 1 @ 1:15pm
Von Saga and Deforce can make the speed in the small field. VON SAGA (1) went to the sand 17 days ago seeking the hat-trick off a 5.5L CL1 win at Strathalbyn. He led again but was caught late over the longer trip. He's much better suited here and with the 3kg claim is the one to beat for a form yard. KIROSHIMA (4) presents as a danger third-up off two near misses at the provincials. Draws well with the weight relief and will get every chance. DEVONTE (5) finished alongside at above at Murray Bridge running along and is also knocking on the door. He will lead or stalk and go close again. FERGIE (3) is capable and will be better third-up. SELECTIONS: #1 Von Saga can bounce back on the grass and looks a bet at the $3.00 in morning markets.
Warwick Farm: Race 3 @ 2:00pm
Debutants hold the key to the early speed. Expect there to be enough of it on up front. CELANDINE (5) resumes. Showed good promise through her three start maiden prep which returned two placings at provincial level. Won a trial well in readiness for this. CALIFORNIA AUGUST (1) has been beaten as favourite in each of his two runs this prep. Market expectations aside however, the runs have possessed merit. KAPTIVE (3) debuts off some solid trial showings and clearly warrants a market watch. LET ME THINK (7) off a debut placing at the provincials also worth thought. SELECTIONS: Going with Celandine.
Alice Springs: Race 1 @ 2:40pm
Duke Of Hearts can lead and there will be a number close-up. DUKE OF HEARTS (1) has led and won the last two as favourite with the latest in this grade. He keeps improving and is still to reach his NSW peaks. TRUCKLOAD OF HOFFA (2) missed the hat-trick in the same day heavily-bet. He ran along and folded up late and can bounce with a steady ride. GUARDIAN (9) is a Maiden who has placed the last three. Expect the best of them to stack up and he can't be ruled out at a price. Stablemate DENATIN (4) resumes and is capable. A form hoop switches from the above and keep a close eye on the market. SELECTIONS: #1 Duke Of Hearts carries 1.5kg more but that shouldn’t stop him.
Sandown: Race 7 @ 3:55pm
Carwelkin and Miss Hayworth may be the pair to run them along. ZOUBO (3) has just missed the last two and got caught deep the latest. She's back a few levels in grade today and rates to win with Oliver re-united. JUNGLE JANE (8) has won two of the last three at easier level. She's back in trip off a freshen and has each way claims getting in light in this company with the 3kg claim. SHE SHAO FLY (2) has switched yards and finds easier grade. Go on the first-up Caulfield placing. She draws out but gets the handy claim and a forward run won't surprise. RADIANT WARRIOR (10) resumes for the new yard and is capable fresh. She will get a soft run from the rail and could be the surprise packet. SELECTIONS: It’s been a while between drinks, but #3 Zoubo is very well-placed today by the O’Brien barn.
