Forever an optimist I'm hopeful of an improving track with the rain staying away - fingers crossed.
As with most Winter meetings, there are a few intriguing contests coupled with a few lowly affairs.
While that may seem aggressive at first glance, given there are four last start winners engaged, the pair look a level above.
Never want to be too dismissive of some lightly raced types, however on current evidence, their ceilings appear a lot higher.
Travest was very good under the circumstances last start and gets his chance to take up a position from an inside draw.
He looks the obvious, however he's never raced in and around horses and is yet to win away from home.
Tough critic given he's only had one start away from home and had little chance given the pattern of the day, however it's still a question mark.
He can certainly win (I'll be saving on him), however happy to swing the way of the Chris Waller trained Dancing Gidget.
A narrow winner prior to a break, she returned with a bang last start when putting her rivals to the sword a long way out.
Form hasn't worked out, but don't want to tie her down because of the slow horses behind her, she gave them a beating.
For the third time in her career she ran a speed figure >90 and suspect she can improve further second up.
Since kept fresh (24 days), she has been given a soft trial in the lead up and Bowman goes aboard from a favourable draw.
Should appreciate the likely solid tempo up front and with clear air, she should prove hard to hold out.
The Team Freedman trained Outback Diva couldn't have done much more last start, similar to Travest she was just a victim of circumstance, the race was dominated by those on-pace.
Ratings suggest she is in career best form and while up in grade, she appears very well placed with the added aid of the claim.
Unlike last start she should get the race tempo to suit and if there is a pattern to be on-speed, by this time of the day they could over do it with three likely to press forward (Prime Candidate, Rari and You Make Me Smile).
Either way I think she gets her chance to blend into the race and sets up well, three weeks between runs, back to 1300m.
Proven to handle all conditions and should be very strong late.
