Racing Preview - Canberra : Friday, 7th August 2020

3 minute read

The track is currently a soft 6 and it's raining in the Capital. The Rail is out 7m the entire. It looks a good betting program.

Race 1 (2000m) CL1 SW

A race ripped apart by scratchings. DUCLAIR (3) represents a leading Sydney yard and was better up to this distance-range at Goulburn. Penza will give him a good ride in a tactical race and he can win racing at peak. CLUB LEGEND (5) has just missed the last two in Maidens and there was nothing in it at provincial level last time. He's on the quick return and expect the form to stack right up. A gap then to HARD EXPECTATIONS (6) who might be best of the remaining two.

Race 2 (1000m) Open 3

Of the ones we've seen Different Time and Jesta Diva will race forward. WAAFIYA (6) resumed at Canterbury off a Randwick trial win and didn't have much luck at all when just in the market. The well-bred filly will have taken fitness and learning from that effort and draws a low gate today with Penza booked. Team Snowden don't miss often in Canberra and she can add to the record. ARIZONA NIGHT (3) debuts for an in-form Sydney barn and has been well-trialled. She missed a nose at Warwick Farm the latest and is sure to race boldly. DIFFERENT TIME (5) won a Canberra trial and then was just okay placing at Leeton as favourite. She will push forward and is a local with more to offer. JESTA DIVA (8) improved sharply just missing here two weeks ago racing on-pace. He will be better for that and gets the chance to go one better.

Race 3 (1400m) Maiden

Jack The Brumby is likely to lead and it could be comfortable. JACK THE BRUMBY (1) couldn't have been more impressive beaten a lip here two weeks ago behind the Sydney-trained California August.  He led and fought like a tiger after an awkward start and keeps getting better. He can deliver today for the Olive barn reaching peak fitness. UNLOCH THE ROCK (4) resumed as favourite at Goulburn and was just okay beaten 3.4L She'd come off a nose defeat at Kembla Grange and that reads well for this. Expect the Sydney mare to make quick improvement. PHOTOGENIC (2) resumes off two city trials and has been a work in progress. It would be no surprise if he came back further improved and the market must be monitored closely. COSTA CHIN CHIN (7) had been tracking well before a disappointing effort well-bet in the Dubbo mile. Expect the shorter trip to suit and can make the finish if he avoids getting boxed-up from the rail.

Race 4 (1400m) CL1

Marsannay, Bro and Oriental Gift look the trio to run them along. MARSANNAY (6) led and was far too good for the Open 2s here two weeks ago and will be further improved. He runs along and can control the race again from the rail. The extra 200m shouldn't bother the well-bred Sydney colt and he can repeat. HIGH ADVICE (3) wasn't beaten far resuming at this level on the same day after a slow start. The Albury galloper has more to offer and can sit handier today and improve. LADY KIRKHAM (5) resumes off two city trials and races well in Canberra. She's up to this and has won first-up. She needs some luck pushing forward but is certainly a hope. FRANCISCO PIZARO (4) has ability and will be better for the first-up run. He's in a good local barn and Ford's booking is a plus. Keep him well-onside.

Race 5 (1200m) Maiden

A few of the raced can sit handy but it's speculative how the large field settles in the run. KOWLOON TREASURE (4) debuts off a string of trials stretching back to November. He just missed a recent one at Randwick and the Sydney galloper finds a winnable race to kick off in. He gets the sticky gate but will manage that if the trials are any indication. WILFUL SOUL (11) has missed a lip at Goulburn the last two and interestingly the Dryden-trained galloper has never raced at home. She a definite winning chance but the wide gate is against. MOHAHNA (5) resumes for the Olive yard and has placed 2/2 fresh. He draws to advantage and no surprise if he comes back much improved. Keep a close eye on the late market. RADIANT CUT (8) is a Sydney galloper better for the first-up run. She has more to give and also deserves plenty of consideration.

Race 6 (1000m) BM60

Muzzleburst can lead the short sprint from The Inflamer and Mr Aloysius. CANYONERO (2) was just beaten here before the break and then just missed resuming as favourite at Goulburn in 66 grade when belting home from the back. Second-up he was heavily-bet at Hawkesbury in the CL1 and things didn't work out. He gets the blinkers again and can win finding his best and with a good ride. REDICON (7) resumes off the CL1 win at Queanbeyan and the Deep Field gelding owns a Canberra trial win. He draws to advantage and will be a serious player if presented on song. MR ALOYSIUS (6) resumes and is a speedster drawn the rail. The Olive galloper is sure to have come on and no surprise if he's backed and right in the finish. FARTHING WOOD (4) comes back in grade and go on the 1.3L defeat here two-back when she thundered home after a slow off. She needs the speed on but deserves plenty of consideration.

Race 7 (1600m) BM 70 Federal

Riot Act and Prince Jacko will be prominent from the jump. RIOT ACT (8) comes to peak seeking the hat-trick and has been winning comfortably from the pace. His figures stack right up and the promising galloper gets weight relief in this grade. He should make easy work of the tricky gate and is the one to beat. WICHITA WARRIOR (6) was disappointing in town and then made a ratings spike winning the CL2 easily at Goulburn as the market expected. This is a step-up but he's an improving local who will get every chance from the low gate. AWAY SHE GOES (7) powered home from the back winning here first-up at this level. The back-form is good and expect her to see out the mile this time around. CASINO TIME (11) won over a trip on the same day by a space as favourite. He's never raced better and is a chance back to the mile given a good tempo.

Race 8 (1300m) BM65

An open race with Supplyzing the one to make the speed. GLAMOUR CAT (2) had been threatening in the city and then placed at Goulburn in a bit stronger than this after an awkward start. She will get a soft run from the rail and has the handy 2kg claim. She gets her chance. FLORA BEL (7) peaks off the near miss in the Federal behind Away She Goes when she was well-backed. She's ready to win but has to manage the weight rise and the wide gate. IZZY LOOKING GOOD (4) followed the win with a good effort at Rosehill with a near-miss in the 58. This is harder but is going well enough to be a chance. SUPPLYZING (6) resumes for an Albury yard off a 4.5L Wagga trial win. He goes fresh and is up to this at best. DIP ME LID (16) may need another run but is in the Canberra premiership yard and Ford replaces the apprentice. No surprise to see him come hard late.
