Brookhouse to head Tas NBL franchise

3 minute read

Simon Brookhouse will return to basketball administration as chief executive of Tasmania's new NBL team for the 2021-22 season.

Former Hobart Chargers president Simon Brookhouse has been lured back to the NBL to head Tasmania's new team next year.

The executive has two decades of experience in Tasmanian and Victorian basketball and will return to the sport from his current post as Golf Australia's operations boss.

The yet-to-be-named team will enter the league in the 2021-22 season and play out of the Derwent Entertainment Centre.

"I'm very excited about the opportunity to be part of Tasmania's new NBL team," said Brookhouse, who will start in the role next month.

"Tasmania has a rich sporting heritage and this is an opportunity to showcase the state on the national and international stage.

"Having been closely involved in basketball in Tasmania, I know how passionate Tasmanians are about their sport and state and we want everyone to get behind the new team and make basketball the number one sport in Tasmania."
